Morning sickness 😢

I found out I was pregnant with my first baby a few weeks ago, mainly due to days of crippling sickness.
I have my first midwife appointment this week and I'm desparate for some help with the sickness. I have it all day every day and through the night, I can't keep fluids down, I can barely get into work and when I am I am totally useless (I work in retail) its just becoming impossible to live any sort of life at the moment. I have tried ginger, little and often, dry foods in the morning, acupuncture bands, different foods etc. I'm resting when I can but need to work I can't afford not to.
I just don't know how I can do this for another few weeks minimum, I'm spending most of my days in a bucket and in tears.
I've heard they are reluctant to give us anything to help, what can I do??

Don’t despair OP. For lots of people it only lasts 12 weeks. On all these threads I recommend milkshake. It’s thicker than water but quenches thirst!

explodingkitten · 05/02/2019 17:29

There are sickness meds that are perfectly safe to use during pregnancy, please ask for them. If they tell you no, get a second opinion.

Littleraspberry5 · 05/02/2019 17:37

I will definitely ask I'm just already preempting them saying no and completely despairing! I know people say it doesn't last and that was fine for a few days but it's getting so much worse everyday and I'm so lethargic as I can't take on fluids now that it's becoming very difficult for me to be excited. Another week of this is too long for me 😅

Milkshake is something I hadn't been advised so will definitely give that ago! Will do anything

Have you tried the bands?

Littleraspberry5 · 05/02/2019 17:45

I have tried the bands yes, I don't feel they do anything but keep them on anyway! Ha.

Did they help you?

A lot of people have said they didn't work for them but they did for me.

I'd go to the doctors and get the anti sickness tablets if I were you, morning sickness is a bitch 😞

butterwithtoast · 05/02/2019 17:57

The readiness to give meds definitely varies. I was like you and when I told my midwife at my booking appointment she immediately arranged a prescription for anti-sickness medication. And when they didn't work she arranged a different one for me to try, which did help a little. My GP also signed me off work. Don't be afraid to ask for what you need. I hope you get help, it really is miserable.

Littleraspberry5 · 05/02/2019 18:01

That's encouraging to know someone has a good experience with midwives and help that's helped.

I said to my mum I don't understand how women have not made a huge song and dance about this! It's absolutely awful.

All my friends before me and my mum were very lucky and didn't have any sickness so this is something i feel is sooooo new to deal with as no one really warned me hhaa!

I totally feel your pain. I am 12 weeks and have suffered terrible sickness since 5 weeks. I've barely left my house since Xmas and have had to temporarily close my business as I am unable to work.
Some unlucky people experience pregnancy sickness worse than others and no amount of ginger/ wristbands and home remedies will help it when it is this bad.

Definitely go to the Dr. There are several
Medications they can try. I have tried several. Although the one I'm on now doesn't make it go away, I am at least able to eat and drink now.
Lots of people have a lot of success with medication.

There is a 'Hyperemisis Support' group on here. Take a look. I have found it so helpful.

Littleraspberry5 · 05/02/2019 18:07

Thanks Meg6840 I certainly will! It's complete knocked me for six and I'm desparate to get into work, I'm sadly not in a position to take time away unless I take company sick pay which I don't want to have to do but I'm running out of ways to cope

I’ve been off work for a little while now, I was given meds at my first appointment with the GP.
They don’t take all the sickness away, but I can now eat and drink without immediately bringing it back up!
There’s no reason they wouldn’t prescribe anything for you.

spugzbunny · 05/02/2019 18:12

Ice lollies! I ate tonnes in any weather! Really helps!

Excusemyfrench · 05/02/2019 18:19

I really feel for you. I was pregnant with twins and really suffering. I called my GP one morning and said Im 9 weeks pregnant with twins, my MW suggested some anti sickness medicine at the appointment but I tried to be brave (so stupid) and now a week later I cant cope. Help please.
She put me on hold and 5 mins later I had a prescription waiting for me at the pharmacy.
I was given PHENERGAN and it really helped. Downside was how sleepy they made me. But I'd take zombie over pukie any day :)

Also, it all eased off around 11 weeks.
You are doing amazing and all this will soon be a distant memory. 🌟

PoachedEggOnToast · 05/02/2019 18:27

I suffered with servere sickness and was eventually hospitalised as i couldnt keep any fluids down and was loosing weight. I did try to battle on at first but please dont if your feeling that poorly.
Its definately worth getting some anti sickness medication if you need it before things get to that stage. I was on cyclizine and metroclopromide and although it didnt stop the sickness altogether it took the edge off.
I had my baby girl 8 weeks ago and its all forgotten about now! It was all worth it! Congrats on your pregnancy Flowers

Littleraspberry5 · 05/02/2019 18:27

I used to have chronic fatigue syndrome so tiredness I can handle and would choose it any day over feeling like this ha!

Makes it so difficult to be excited and start a bond with the pregnancy when everyone around me is beyond elated

OP posts:
NicoleNoPants · 05/02/2019 20:12

You will bond OP, I had severe sickness from week 1 and until I was in the birthing pool and I bonded with the baby.
