Are my family being over-protective? (long, sorry)

Due in ten days (am 31, first child), and yesterday my much-beloved 90-year-old nan had to be admitted to hospital because shes hallucinating. Physically normal so far as all tests suggest (brain scan tomorrow); very sharp on days of week, what happened yesterday, current state of English tennis etc etc; but hearing voices and convinced someone shes never met is trying to kill her (v weird to have normal convo with her and then suddenly have that dropped in casually!).

Family has rallied round and were all ringing the hosp, checking on her, ensuring shes not neglected (my grandad was neglected nearly to death there last year after going in with simple infection so we are not being paranoid).

Thing is, everyone adamant that I should not visit as don`t need stress and should avoid infection.

Take point and appreciate that they care (lovely Mum even said I had the important job of producing the longed-for great-grandchild which should pick her up more than anything). But this is the hosp Im due to give birth in! So Ill be there before too long anyway.

Dunno what to do...

Moorhen - sorry to hear about your Nan. Not sure what to say really hopefully someone will have some better advice for you.

Sounds like your family are just concerned for your health and mean well though. I'm sure if you feel it won't stress you out too much a short visit wouldn't put you at risk of too much infection....

my DH's nan was very poorly less than 3 weeks before i had my DS
i went to visit her in hospital - didn't occur to me not too
i do understand what your family are saying but perhaps it will be nice for you and your nan
as you say, you will be there soon yourself anyway

Moorhen,

Sorry to hear about your nan.

I know how you feel, when i had dd no one told me my nan was seriously ill in hospital, luckly for me nan came home and we had her for another 18mths.

If it was me, i would have to go and see her. I was very close to my nan we used to stay with her during school holidays.

I am pg again and have been in and out of both Milton Keynes hospital and Harefield as this time it's my dad who is seriously ill and catchind an infection from the hospital is the least of my worries.

They're being overprotective. If you want to go then do so. I'm sure you know the way if you've only ten days left

Take care.

Agnes

Thank you everyone, really appreciate the support.

Hopefully today we`ll know how long they're planning to keep her in for; if it's only a day or so I will wait and check on her when she's home, if it's a week I will definitely go.

Who knows, if LO gets a move on I might be visiting from the mat ward crossed fingers come on come on come on baby...
