Anyone else have a chorionic bump?

Was seen at EPU today for a second scan because of a bit of spotting. At the first scan I was just over 5 weeks. This time just over 7 and there was a large white mass showing on the scan.

The good news is that baby is growing and could see fetus and heartbeat.

He had to call in a consultant to check. She just said they can increase risk of miscarriage and to come back again in two weeks.

I've had a quick look online - sounds quite rare and not a huge amount of info.

Another two anxious weeks (and rest of pregnancy!) for me then!

Is this a subchorionic hematoma? I had one of these with my son. I bled very heavily at 13 weeks, and thought I’d lost him.

Yes, it can increase the risks of miscarriage, but I was told usually it’s fine. They tend to resolve by around 20 weeks, and go on to cause no further issues.

I would receommmed no heavy lifting though, as I do believe this does trigger bleeding. I bled for about 8 weeks daily, but then it healed up.

Congrats and good luck

I think it's similar but slightly different although very little online about it.

The consultant crossed fingers on both hands and shook them in my direction. Didn't make me feel very positive :(

Sad I can understand your stress. I found a lack of information both online, and with the consultant too. It’s very frustrating.

Having looked online, yes the location appears to be different with a chorionic bump than a subchorionic hematoma.

I found the best thing I did was have a private scan. In my area there was a fab senior sonographer than ran her own clinic. She took her time with a detailed scan, and explained it all to me. I could of lived attached to that scan during pregnancy for the worry.

My consultant was terrible-I think she weirdly enjoyed being brutal with her words that I could lose my baby Shock

I do think they sometimes forget they are dealing with real people here.

When is your next scan?

I am due to go back next Tuesday - I'll be 9+4. Saw a heartbeat last time and measurements looked ok. They said it wouldn't harm baby but then said it increases chance of miscarriage - contradictory!

There's limited studies online. One suggests miscarriage chance is 17% compared to 2% in a 'normal' pregnancy.

The sonographer didn't know what it was and had to call in a consultant. Doesn't fill you with hope!
