Morning sickness

Hi everyone, I have name changed to avoid linking my other posts but I would really appreciate some advice.

I am almost 10 weeks pregnant with my second and the sickness is awful. I had this with my first the whole way through but obviously it's a lot more difficult this time when I am also dealing with a toddler.

I can barely eat anything as I just feel so rotten and anything I can manage seems to be brought back up again. I went to my doctor last time to be told it is just one of those things and I had to bare with but I honestly don't know how I am going to cope for another 7 months of this as I am drained 😷

Has anyone tried travel sickness bands? Or is there anything I can buy in the pharmacy?x

Thank you for your help x

I’ve tried travel sickness bands. They do seem to help, but with severe nausea it kind of just reduces the overall badness a bit. They are great because you can see that you are doing something to feel better, when helps a bit mentally, but they didn’t nearly get rid of all of my nausea when it was bad.

Now that I’m past the worst, they actually work quite well, and will reduce a bit of nausea to much less/no nausea. I wouldn’t be without them in pregnancy.

I think I’d recommend that you try them, but you’re going to need a lot more than just them! I would much more strongly recommend that you go to the hyperemesis thread and read what they have to say about medication. If you post on there, someone will point you towards the resources you need to make it more likely that the doctor will prescribe the medication you so clearly need.

The thread is here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/3448033-Hyperemesis-Support

Good luck. Sorry your doctor is being unreasonable.

Thanks spargle, I know it will all be worth it in the end but my god it is hard work. I will definitely go and see can I track down one of the travel sickness bands today and I will have a look at the thread you have directed me too. I appreciate your help x

There IS stuff that the GP can prescribe and you don't just have to get on with it. Try a different doctor, or just go back to the same one with the RCOG guidelines to hand.

Thank you SockQueen, I don't even have my first midwife appointment for 2 weeks yet so I don't know whether to struggle on til then or to try and get something sorted before. I just feel rotten with it all and I know there are people who probably have it much worse too x

Don’t struggle on! Read the guidelines, book a doctor’s appointment as soon as possible (you can probably wait until tomorrow, but I would hope you don’t have to wait any longer), and don’t leave there until you have some medication or a referral to someone who will give you some. Two weeks is too long to wait, and I don’t think the midwife can prescribe anything, so that is a bit of a dead end!

(I didn’t get any medication because I could afford to spend all day lying down and doing nothing, and DH would provide me with emergency food and do the shopping. With a little person to look after, it just wouldn’t be possible to cope. Definitely sort this as soon as possible!)

Midwife most likely won't be able to prescribe for you, so it's definitely worth trying to see a GP sooner - 2 weeks is a long time to continue feeling grotty!

I wasn't as sick second time round, but found it much harder because my toddler DS wouldn't let me get a minute's rest.

Thanks for all your suggestions, I am definitely going to speak with my gp again. In the meantime I have purchased Dickens's bands made especially for morning sickness so I am willing to give them a go to see if they even take the edge off. Here's hoping!x
