I don't want to hear the negative please.

I'm being induced tomorrow and would like some advice/stories etc.

Keep walking around as soon as they allow you to and keep drinking plenty. You’ll be absolutely fine and the whole experience is much better than you have read anywhere. I was terrified of being induced because of what I’d read but it all worked out absolutely fine for me and the baby arrived 25 hours after the pessary was inserted. Keep your mind on the end prize! You can do this!

HenSolo · 04/02/2019 22:35

Agree! Had two inductions and nowhere near as bad as everyone said. In fact the second birth was a lovely, calm experience. Disclaimer: I did have an epidural though! 😁

E20mom · 04/02/2019 22:39

Arrived for induction. Given a tablet. 2 hrs and 2 paracetamol later I gave birth. It was really just fine.

E20mom · 04/02/2019 22:41

Also I was never monitored or hooked up to anything. Lots of people seem to assume if you're induced you're stuck in the bed but I was just walking around.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 04/02/2019 22:46

Ive had two inductions. My fist was born 3 hours after the pessary, my second 90 minutes. No pain relief either time. I really enjoyed giving birth and would happily be induced again.
Good luck op! Hope it goes well for you!

Mine was good, I used a birthing ball and then had tablet painkillers while in early labour. I got the pessary in the morning and at first it looked like not much was happening but it did kick off in the end, DS was born in the early hours and we were down in the ward by 5am after I had a shower.

I got a button triggered painkiller on a drip and fell asleep during labour. I would have been able to get out that day but they wanted to keep DS in for a check so we were in for the next day too.

SockQueen · 04/02/2019 22:54

Take some good books/something to do for the pessary bit - if it doesn't kick off quickly, you'll be bored! The ward was so busy when I went in for my induction that I waited 12 hours before even getting my first pessary, so was glad I had Kindle and laptop to keep myself entertained.

I was pretty lucky and went into full blown labour just with the first pessary, so never needed any further intervention like having my waters broken or going on the drip. From pessary to delivery in 12 hours, only needed gas & air for pain relief.

delilabell · 04/02/2019 22:55

I was hooked up to machines because if my ridiculously high blood pressure. 3 attempts to get me started and the drip.
I promise this is a positive story. The waiting around was lovely as I had time to myself to read and lie about in bed 😂 the Labour was painful and I did have pethidine but it was easy and she popped out with no need for forceps or caesarian and just a few tears. Woukd have been allowed home that evening if it hadn't been for blood pressure.
I loved my birth it was magical.
Agree with lots of walking.. In the delivery suit have raido on and lights low.
Good luck!!

Mine took 48 hours from first pessary to baby but I could walk around, go out for lunch, do whatever for most of that. I found it a really positive experience. Once my waters were broken things kicked off and by the time I decided I wanted an epidural it was too late! All grand though, you can do this! And you'll be holding your baby in no time! Just have a book / iPad / headphones in your hospital bag in case it takes a little while.

babyp160 · 05/02/2019 07:42

Thank you all, you seem to only get the negative stories online.

Been up half the night with mixed emotions about today but ultimately can't wait to meet our baby!

@HenSolo live the disclaimer part 😂

Walking shoes on, plenty of entertainment currently charging/stopping off to get mags! And water intake already on the go! 🤞🏼💙

I always say it was boring (took 5 days to work) but it was fine - no trauma or distress at all

LaBelleSauvage123 · 05/02/2019 07:50

Took a while to get going for me but once contractions started DS1 arrived in 5 hours. Midwife described it as a ‘storming labour’.

MsTSwift · 05/02/2019 07:53

Have a flipping epidural straight away. I wasn’t offered - my Bil a consultant anaesthetist at another hospital was shocked. The pain starts with no build up. I ended up with 12 hours labour and emergency c section. We both survived though no long term damage

Zebrasinpyjamas · 05/02/2019 07:55

I had the drip and epidural from the start. I had to stay lying down but it was very relaxed and pain free. 12 hrs of waiting (they kept telling me to wait before pushing so baby was definitely pull descended) and dc came out with 2 pushes and no tearing. Good luck

onemorego2019 · 05/02/2019 08:05

I've had 3 inductions and all were fine. The quickest was with my dd at 40 + 11 the slowest was my ds at 38 weeks. Take something to do as it's quite boring to start with especially if they're busy as you can be there a couple of hours before you even get a pessary! Good luck xx

babyp160 · 05/02/2019 11:58

Thanks everyone. Pessary in..... after years from me worrying 🙈 xx

I was induced with both of mine, I was much more relaxed both times as I was in hospital, I'd worried both pregnancies about giving birth in the car or stuck at home. I wanted the drugs so that was a big fear for me. Both times I was in hospital, got great care, babies monitored from the onset and in the case of the second time it was super quick, a little too quick as the epidural didnt get a chance to work, but it was actually fine in the end as he came so quick.

Good Luck and Congratulations.

Justus22 · 05/02/2019 12:34

I've been induced twice, they actually were better and more controlled than the time I wasn't. Last time I had an epidural early on and it was the most amazing birth, pain free, calm and no intervention at all. Recovery was next to nothing, my husband helped me shower within half hour of delivery it wore off that quickly. Stay calm, birth can be painful but it doesn't have to be, for me I'd rather take the epidural ASAP and enjoy and remember the experience than not and then be utterly exhausted afterwards with a newborn to look after. I heard having your waters broken is horrible-it's nothing, not even as bad as a smear which is again not painful. Hope you enjoy your birth experience anyway, I'd add that both times they induced me they had hormone drip in place and took it straight out as as soon as they broke my waters my body kicked in and I didn't need any help, I was ready, I think this is common when you are due. Also I can't comment on the pessary method as I had it but it didn't work at all for me. Honestly please don't listen to horror stories, every birth is different but they induce people every day they know how to look after you. Good luck xxxx

AliceRR · 05/02/2019 12:49

Good luck @babyp160 xx

FlaviaAlbia · 05/02/2019 12:52

Good luck! Lovely newborn cuddles coming your way Smile

Spicychocolatecake · 05/02/2019 13:40

I was induced last year, like you, had the pessary put in in the morning, started contracting around 4pm, regular by 7pm and every minute apart by 10pm. Waters broke the next morning and I was taken through to Labour suite. Had an epidural and slept until 6pm when I woke cause I had to push. 3 pushes and DD was born! No interventions, tears or bruising. Was such an easy birth.
Only advice is try and keep active once contractions start. I noticed mine slow when I lay down, don't know if it's like that for everyone, but the birthing ball and pacing kept things going for me. Good luck!! 😊

Liz3891 · 05/02/2019 15:52

I also had a positive experience. I was in from early morning with nothing happening. First twinges around 8pm but no serious pain until 130 when my waters broke and the pain escalated immediately. Bsby was born 3h later with no epidural (progressed too quickly). I’ve never given birth without induction but although it was painful it wasn’t as bad as I expected given the horror stories. Plus the actual painful part was very quick as I didn’t find the pushing and actual birth painful. More a relief. So I was only really in pain for a couple of hours.

hammeringinmyhead · 05/02/2019 16:20

Good luck! I had a pessary, started contracting 3 hours later, and gave birth 3 hours after that with a tens and some gas and air. It's not always awful!
