Feeling a bit sorry for myself.
27+4 and just recieved the news I've gotten gestational diabetes.
Feel shit for being fat and not looking after myself in pregnancy as I have been eating crap tbh.
Can you let me know your experiences with it? And if baby was okay once they were born?

I was diagnosed with GD at 32 weeks - really shocked me tbh as I'm not a sugary person and I had a fantastic diet throughout.

I was diet managed so didn't have any medication, just the endless blood testing before and after meals.

The bonus(?) is that I did get 3/4 extra scans as GD can create big babies. I was measuring 9lb2 at 38 weeks and booked in for an induction - I spent the evening in tears to DH because I was convinced at this stage my firstborn was going to come out toddler sized.

Induced labour was long and drawn out and I didn't have an epidural so the ramp up in pain after the hormone drip was a bit of a shocker to be honest.

Our son arrived weighing a very average 7lbs8 and my vagina remained fairly in tact.

Honestly, it's not all doom and gloom and at this stage you will have chance to sort your diet out before they think about medicating you.

I was diagnosed at 28 weeks. Type 2 runs in my family and I am big so no great surprise. I was on diet and metformin but wasn't enough so I injected insulin from 29 weeks. I was very strict with what I ate.

Good news was I lost a ton of weight and my daughter was born 6lb 13 and completely healthy.

Bad news was failed induction which lead to cs at 38+6 and I got a horrible infection of the wound.

All turned out good in the end though :)

Oh and the extra scans were nice

FTM 29+1, I have it. I'm currently just having to check my sugar and take metformin twice a day. so far I've been over a few times but not enough to be put on the insulin thank god. I'm also getting additional scans and from what they have said baby is weighing and measuring fine. I've been watching what I eat and its almost to the point where I feel like the consultants have scared me half to death and I have nightmares about c-sections and big baby. I've also just had a call to say I'm anemic so now I'm shitting it even more. I feel like no matter how much I watch everything, I will end up with a C-section and I really dont want that. I'm not overweight. it just runs in the family and I also have 'inconclusive' PCOS

It isn't the same as normal diabetes.

Just look after yourself and try not to panic.

I had it in both of my pregnancies, I'm relatively slim but my dad has type 2, so please don't beat yourself up as it really can happen to anyone.

I was diagnosed at 28 weeks with my son, was on metformin and had an induction at 38 weeks after my waters broke but no labour. I'll spare the details but it wasn't great. He was 8lb 2oz but very long like a skinned rabbit!

Second pregnancy I was tested at 16 weeks but clear then, it showed up at my 28 week GTT. This time I did end up on insulin at bedtime but it's really not bad, it hurts way less than the finger testing! I had an elective c-section at 38+2 which was amazing! My daughter weighed 7lb 14oz.

Have a look for the gestational diabetes uk website and Facebook page, it's full of advice, recipes and really helpful people.
