Paying for 8 weeks scan

Hi

Just checking if anyone has done this? I'm 4weeks and very,very anxious! Keep thinking the worst will happen and just want to get the 8 week scan done as I think it'll calm me down.

Anyone got any insight into what it's like? I'm guessing the baby is quite hard to see!

As many people here, I had one at 7 weeks because I was completely paranoid after having a miscarriage last summer. It cost £89, which I thought was a reasonable price to pay for peace of mind! It did help me massively.

MC are much more common than people who have not had them realise because we have a culture of not discussing it. 1 in 4 pregnancies end in miscarriage and the majority are early pregnancies and are unexplained. The most common cause of miscarriage is chromosomal abnormalities which would mean the baby would have been disabled or have a condition which was incompatible with life.

I wouldn’t bother purely because I paid for two private scans and still went on to miscarry a few days after the second scan (at 9 weeks but only discovered at the 12 week scan). Thankfully did have a successful pregnancy after that and didn’t bother with early scans. Paid for a 16 week ‘gender’ scan that time instead which was great.

You don’t see much on early scans at all, they just look like a tiny bean/blob and it’s only reassuring for a snapshot of time.

Oh and with a private scan there’s a flat screen TV showing you everything directly in front of you which is fantastic if it’s good news, heartbreaking if bad. I couldn’t look when I had my missed miscarriages and don’t regret that, would’ve been hideous to see it on a big screen like that.

@mass22
I had a private scan at 8 weeks, little bean was jumping about and you could clearly see the heartbeat!

however I had a mmc at my 12 week scan, apparently baby stopped growing at 9 weeks.

I bought the video of the scan from mine and honestly I'm so glad I did. even though I lost my baby I always find comfort in watching the video, baby will never be forgotten

We had an 8 week scan as I was desperate to find out there was a baby in there, rather than a blighted ovum/something else.

We saw lovely DS heartbeat, wiggling around and it was nice to see.

It doesn't give you any guarantees - in our case everything went very smoothly and DS is having a squiggle on his playmat as I speak at 15 weeks old. However other people I know had a great 8 week scan only to go on to have miscarriages later.
