FTM here. What toiletries are essential for baby and the baby? I have nipple cream but am sure there's other stuff i should stock up on. Thank you!

I think it’s advised not to use products on your baby, we clean him with sterlilised water and only use pure coconut oil if he is a bit dry. I use zinc and castor oil when changing him after I’ve cleaned. But broadly not too many products.

I had stitches the first time so found a bottle of savlon antiseptic to add to my bath was helpful. Don't know if it works for everyone though.

Babies don't need any products, except for the occasional bit of nappy cream.
They don't need sterilised water to be washed in either.
A baby sponge and clean water will keep them perfectly clean (until weaning, anyway, when you want to upgrade to a power washer and industrial strength disinfectant!).
Nipple cream for mum (and awesome if baby gets dribble rash or a touch of dry skin), and whatever else you fancy for yourself.

DS is 5 months. He’s been washed in plan (non sterile!) water since birth. We use cloth wipes too so just water on his bum as well. We use a bit of nappy barrier cream (bepanthen works well for us) in his night nappy just to protect his skin a bit. He gets the odd dermatitis-type patch and is sometimes quite dry in other areas and we pop some Child’s Farm moistiriser on those but I would probably wait to see if hon actually need any.

Lansinoh was a complete waste of time for me - even when I had horrendously sore nipples. It’s so much more helpful to get a good latch and work on good positioning. I wouldn’t waste £10+ on a big tube you might not need. Get a tiny tube or sample packs and see how you get on. I’m still using my tube as lip balm! I didn’t need anything special following my emergency c section. I avoided getting any products on my scar until it was externally quite well healed. I did find scar massage was really good for softening up the scar tissue once it was externally healed - I used sweet almond oil but anything like coconut oil or vitamin e oil would work.

Lanolin is great for breastfeeding but can also use it on baby if they have some dry skin

You can get bath soak that's good for healing after birth

Otherwise, long breastfeeding or FF sessions have a lip balm handy

Top and toe or baby bath when they are a bit bigger

Lots of cotton wool, wet wipes
