Early mat leave

I am 30 weeks pregnant and was due to go off at 34 weeks but my doctor has signed me off early due to SPD and anxiety.

I'm having a slight panic at letting work down but they've been really understanding so I'm starting to feel slightly more at ease.

My question anyway is, what do I do for the next 10 weeks?! I'm not necessarily worried about being bored but would like to ensure I'm as prepared as poss for baby.

Anyone got any tips on what they did before baby came, or what they wish they had done?

Thanks a lot! X

Hi @FTMapril2019, sorry to hear you're feeling poorly.
I'd recommend batch cooking eg lasagne, cottage pie etc so that you have easy meals you can pop in the oven once baby arrives. My friend did that for us and it was incredibly helpful.

Sorry to hear you've been having such a rough time, but I'm glad work have been ok.

What would you like to do? I'm finishing at 37 weeks, but taking some leave to reduce my hours from 34 weeks. I plan to swim every day, do lots of batch cooking and make friends and family eat cake with me. (Some of them are on mat leave our work nearby so can do luncheon.) I will also knit baby things.

Are you not planning on going back at all? Just asking as legally your maternity leave will start at 36 weeks if you’re off for pregnancy related illness.

My experience has been similar. Don't forget to rest, watch tv, see friends etc. You won't get the time back. I also completed the digital pack from the Positive Birth Company and would recommend that if you are into the idea of hypnobirthing. And I did a pregnancy yoga class. Both provide useful strategies for getting your mental health on track. In terms of preparing for baby try to do small jobs each day but take the occasional rest day for yourself - maybe a pregnancy massage.

I left work at 29 weeks (I had no intention on going back, but didn’t tell them that until necessary) I took it so easy and enjoyed the “me time” honestly you will NEVER be just you again so I would relish it!!
