Sitting in bed worrying on the fact its been snowing and I don't know what to do about work situation. Im 32 weeks pregnant and i could drive or walk to work, but firstly i've never driven in the snow but if i walk i'll have to leave at 6 and take me half an hour/40 minutes to get there but it involves hills and unlit roads this early in the morning!
Anyone else had this kind of situation? I'm just worried i might fall or have an accident

What is your job? Unless you are emergency services or a care worker or similar then just don’t go in. X

snoopy18 · 01/02/2019 03:16

Same as OP - I wouldn’t risk going in if it’s super bad where you are!

Justagirlwholovesaboy · 01/02/2019 03:33

Depends if the snow is 1cm or 10cm. I didn’t realise snow was that bad in uk yet? Main roads should be fine due to gritters

fermezzlabouche · 01/02/2019 04:16

Can anyone else drive you to work if you're not confident driving in snow?

I was heavily pregnant this time last year and we had lots of snow where I live, not going to work wasn't an option as I'm a nurse. My husband drove me in though, and walked me down the steps and to the door as very slippery!

If you don't 'have' to go to work I'd say phone in and say you can't get in it's not worth you being up in the night worrying.

Milligan123 · 01/02/2019 04:55

Stay home!!! What's the point? I'm 34wks and luckily I've already finished, otherwise I'd have an hr commute, after just having a peek out the window (had to get up.to pee 😉)there is no way I'd be going today!! Don't feel guilty why put yrself at risk? xx

Magi4 · 01/02/2019 06:03

I'd have no1 to drive me in or walk with me and the roads around the area haven't been gritted. Think my worry is i have a manager who has no filter or emotion when it comes to someone's health with anything. Just watching the news and more snow to come!
It don't help that I'm a key-holder that lives the closest to work. I think i need to brave the phone call that i'm not coming in

Taxi?

trendingorange · 01/02/2019 06:18

Ask a colleague to pick you up on their way in?
How bad is the snow?
I always think it's safer to drive than walk (unless the snow is impassable by car) especially as your pregnant.

Ive rang in and one of them understood thankfully, in our whole work place theres 5 of us who drive and its a rota work shifts so some of them have the day off anyway so obviously not going in and the rest rely on public transport mostly trains, but then some have college or other jobs. They haven't thought it through at all at work in regards of workers being able to get to work. Last year one of the other ladys lived down the road from me so we would always travel together but she left :(

I wouldn't risk it. Stay home and stay safe

Magi4 · 01/02/2019 06:29

And btw i live in the south of the country so we are due more snow throughout the day

I'm 33+ weeks and I wouldn't go in either OP. Snow isn't even particularly bad where I live but the roads haven't been gritted as it's a cul-de-sac and I didn't leave my house yesterday (worried about snow and ice).

Before I was pregnant I worked as a teacher and we had staff (who weren't pregnant) say they weren't coming in due to not willing to drive in the snow and ice.

Keep yourself and baby safe x

minglemoo · 01/02/2019 09:17

If you don't feel safe don't risk it. Think about it , if something would happen , work would carry on , they would feel sad (for a bit) and life would carry on. Look after number one. I signed off sick 28 weeks with my dts - I worked in a school with behavioural issues. Up until that date it wasn't a problem but after then i got anxious. Trust your gut and look after you.

PolarBearDisguisedAsAPenguin · 01/02/2019 09:21

Prioritise your baby and your health at all times with this weather, OP. It’s not worth taking the risk.

RMarieClaire · 01/02/2019 09:27

Don't go. Pull a sicky if you have to. Your employer should be sensitive to the fact you are in the 3rd trimester and make compensations

Helsvamp · 01/02/2019 10:03

Not far gone as you but I am 17 weeks pregnant worried too about falling over. And getting stuck in another town.
