Ladies,

I've been prescribed Tinzaparin and I have been advised to inject into my tummy.. Its getting very uncomfortable, and, I've only had 3 jabs so far.. I'm already bruising and wondering where else I'm able to inject into?

I sympathise- I had a six-week course after my second birth.

I was advised that they could also go into the thigh, so alternated between thighs and belly. Be very careful not to touch or rub the injection site afterwards - this will make the bruising much much worse.

Ah, thank you! My trousers are rubbing the site so I think its why I'm bruising so much..

When did you inject? I'm having my husband do mine first thing to get them out of the way..

I’ve been on Clexane for the last 3 weeks and have another 7 weeks to go. I have been injecting at bedtime so that it doesn’t get rubbed by clothes and I’ve found the bruising isn’t too bad - certainly better than when I used it 15 months ago!!

JustMe18 · 31/01/2019 17:58

@Rememberallball I had a shot at 7am, can I swap to night time tonight?

No, you will have to swap on a day you’ve not had one, @JustMe18!!

Good luck xx

I’ve been injecting tinzaparine since August & have to carry on until June. I found that the bruising was really bad for the first couple of months but generally it has got better over time.
Medical advice is not to do it into thighs but that is quite a decent change - the midwife said if I got too sore then I could do it for a while to let my stomach recover.
Make sure you are going into fat and squeeze the skin tight where you are doing it. Don’t do it after a shower / bath - it def hurts more!
I do 2 injections first thing in the morning in the theory that I get the worst thing of the day out of the way early!
Good luck Flowers

@Katiecausesmischief I spoke to MW who said I can use my leg to rest my tummy.

I just hate doing it x

@justme it is really miserable.... I can’t believe I have almost 5 more months of it....
my Midwives has a whole conversation about how the guidance had changed!
Good luck 👍

I inject mine into the front of my thigh an it doesn’t bruise as much now xx my MW said I can do it stomach or thigh

Littlehouseinthebigcity · 02/02/2019 08:32

My husband injected mine and it was always into my upper arm. I wasn’t keen on it being injected into my stomach while pregnant, and my legs weren’t an option due to an injury.

Miami81 · 02/02/2019 08:37

I do mine into stomach. Consultant said that I can vary site in tummy quite a lot, spread out from navel.
I have been doing them since July. I tried legs a few times but found that the bruising was much worse and that I was banging legs against things etc which was truly eye watering.
I have 20 more shots until baby gets here.
Depending on why you are taking them I was told it is a morning shot. Mine is to help support pregnancy.

JustMe18 · 03/02/2019 08:55

@Miami81 I have Crohn's Disease, so, they need me to take the shots due to inflammation.

I used my thigh, yesterday, and haven't bruised at all.

My tummy on the other hand..

@miami - I love that you know how many you have left to take before baby arrives! I’ve been told I need to carry them on for 3 months after baby arrives.....
My stomach has def stopped bruising as much.... I once put it into muscle by mistake & had a egg appear out of my stomach & it hurt a lot for about 2 weeks.....
what we go through! But I would do it forever if it means the baby makes it safelySmile

Miami81 · 04/02/2019 07:09

Ha ha @Katiecausesmischief it's one of my only ways of consoling myself on a day when I hurt myself with the jab. Yep I would do them forever if someone told me that was what I needed to do to get baby safely here.
I reckon I will end up on them for 6 wks after delivery as well, but to be honest I haven't asked/thought about that yet.
