Glucose tolerance test - were you allowed to walk around?

I recently had a GTT and was told that it was negative. I thought you had to keep still during the 2 hour wait between blood tests (as exercise burns off glucose) but I was told that I could walk around, so I did. But my MIL is a diabetes nurse and she says you're absolutely not allowed to walk around
and that my test was probably invalid. So now I'm now worried that I do have GD after all but that I was misdiagnosed (in fact my consultant was very surprised that I passed the test this time). I know the sensible thing to do is to just ring my consultant and ask him about it but I'm terrified that he'll make me have the test again and that this time I'll fail and will have to do the horrid finger-pricking thing (which I found really traumatic in last pg, wimp that I am). So I'm wondering what other MNers did during their 2-hour wait...

I wasn't allowed to walk round for mine. Most definitely, we all, (there was a group of us) had to sit in a large waiting room.

I wasn't even allowed to go to the car to fetch a book, dh had to go fetch it for me instead.

sat knitting....

We were allowed to go to the loo & stuff, but that was about it...

Had GTTs during both my pg's. Both -ve. (Brother has diabetes so was tested in case I was prone to gestational diabetes).
Was allowed to walk around both times, but not go too far away i.e. stay within hospital grounds.
I'm sure all will be well - suggest you discuss it with your consultant or mw to set your mind at rest.

the one I had in the UK - had to stay on a bed in a ward. Thankfully they warned me about the wait so I bought some work to do.

next two I was in Aus:

no2 - was whilst I was having antenatal appt so was waiting anyway.

no3 -they gave me the drink - I went across the road to the shops and was told to come back in an hour to have blood test and to make sure I did not drink or eat anything.

all were negative.

I was allowed to go shopping during my 2 hour wait. Had mine done at the local health centre so unless I wanted to wait in the waiting room there was no where esle to go but the shops.

I certainly wasn't told to stay still, although they were worried that I was going to throw up the stuff you have to drink as I had hyperemesis (still don't know how I managed to keep it down).

Thanks everyone! After worrying about it all night, I rang the hospital this morning and they said that it's nonsense that people are told to sit still and that it's all just about how your body handles glucose, whether that's sitting or exercising. So although it seems like a lot of areas disagree with that, I'm just going to go with that and relax about it now
