Hi I'm 14 weeks pregnant since taking ondansetron at 9 weeks I have had really bad constipation. I think I'm past a week with no bowl movement 😖 iv had really bad abdominal and back pain all day and tried going but nothing. Today is my first day taking lactulose (prescribed by the doctor) and I'm drinking loads of water. Any advice? I'm so uncomfortable and in pain 😔

Try dried apricots or figs to up your fibre intake.
I suffered badly last pregmancy but this has done the trick this time 😊

Daily Fybogel and if you need to kick start things, movicol. Both can be bought over the counter. Fybogel contains sweeteners if that is an issue for you. Movicol is just revolting, but was the only thing that got me going. Lactulose made me sick and others did nothing.

My physio mentioned using the syrup of tinned prunes - in yogurt or your porridge to help. She also said to use a small step to put your feet on when sitting on the toilet - (like a toddler step when toilet training) or anything similar as it helps release a muscle that makes it easier to go.

Fybogel
Fresh orange juice with pulp
Lentils (Dahl or soup)

Prune juice!

I've found having a bigggg bowl of bran flakes for breakfast each day has helped me so far (29 weeks) but you have to drink LOADS of water too to keep the bran moving !! Good luck I had it early on so feel your pain! X

When you sit on the toilet try putting your feet up on something like a small step or a box - raising your knees above your hips can help get things moving.

While trying to ‘go’ put gentle pressure on your perineum as this can help push the firm stool out - especially if you also have your feet raised. You can always use toilet paper against your perineum if you don’t want to use bare fingers.

Prune house or freshly squeezed orange juice often work for people, as can strong black coffee (double espresso strength) but have to consider the amount of caffeine in it. Spicy food can work for some people too.

Good luck - constipation is a real nuisance!!

Movicol. It's not a laxative so it won't cause wind and cramps. It's an effective stool softener that encourages things along naturally.

I took it for my entire second pregnancy as prescribed by my gp but you can buy it over the counter in the pharmacy.

Prune juice is also very good and very nutritious for baby too!

Kiwi fruit and Weetabix. Avoid bananas.
