Haemoglobin level too high. Not registered with a new doctor or a maternity hospital.

My daughter is 16 weeks pregnant(1st baby) and has been told by her midwife that her blood pressure is slightly raised and her haemoglobin level too high(14.4). She has put on over a stone in weight! My daughter has a history of anaemia and low blood pressure, so this is all rather worrying. She is to be referred to a consultant to monitor the situation, due to the possibility of developing pre-eclampsia.

My daughter has recently moved from one side of London to the other and seems in no hurry to register with a new doctor or a maternity hospital. Her work is nearer to her present doctors surgery, which means she doesnt have to take so much time off work.
I shoul be grateful for any comments or advice on the above two matters.

i didn't know 14 was too high....mine was 14 all the way through both pgs.

what is her bp?

Hopeitwontbebig · 02/07/2007 13:46

Sprog59, I've linked to a website which seems to suggest that your daughters hb levels aren't actually high.

I hope that helps.

Thanks for the replies, I feel a lot happier already.

I seems strange that my daughter is to be referred to a consultant and scorpio 1 wasn't? Maybe because my daughter had a miscarriage a couple of years ago!

i had consultant led care, because in the last weeks of pg i get sky high bp. maybe thats why she has consultant led care, then, her bp must be quite high.

at least she is being monitored!

MrsBadger · 02/07/2007 14:10

depends what her 'baseline' Hb was - if it's suddenly shot up since her 10wk booking in this may be more concern-worthy than someone (maybe like scorpio) whose has always been high.

So long as she's still actualy going to her GP / MW / hosp appts I don't think there's too much of a problem with where they are - penty of time to transfer care later.

goingfor3 · 02/07/2007 14:10

What's her BP?

scorpio1 · 02/07/2007 14:11

yes, mine is always high, even when not pg.

goingfor3 · 02/07/2007 14:15

What's your scorpio1. Mine is 130/80 which is higher than it was at the end of my other pregnancies. Sorry for the hyjack!

scorpio1 · 02/07/2007 14:16

last time i had it measured i was 39+4 (day before i gave birth) and it was 140/92, and i was seeing stars!

Thank you all for your comments, very helpful and reassuring. It does look as if my daughter's blood pressure must be higher than she is telling me, or it has gone up noticeably since her 11 week check. I couldn't contact her yesterday but will speak to her today.

I have spoken to my daughter and her blood pressure is only slightly raised. There are no concerns about her blood pressure! She has been told that any pregnant lady, with a haemoglobin level above 14, has to be referred to a consultant. She is currently attached to St Thomas Hospital!
