Bedside crib - what do I do?

Hi everyone :)

In the process of getting a bedside crib, but really stuck on which one would be best.

I hear pretty bad things about Moses baskets so not sure about one of them? I've heard they can grow out of them quick and judging by the weight of myself and my husband as babies, I presume I might have a big baby.

We also will be needing one that is easily portable for weekend trips to visit family.

What do you use? I've been looking at the NextToMe, the tuti bambini Cozee and the snuzpod? (I also think these are all pretty pricey by the way just to use for six months and that's if baby doesn't grow out of them quicker. But the cheaper alternatives on amazon etc, just don't seem to be as easy to research, or watch reviews of, or come with travel bags etc).

And also, does anybody have advice on sleeping arrangements for downstairs? One thing I liked about the snuzpod is that the top comes off, but then it's also not very travel friendly.. so not sure?

Any advice would be great :)

Next to Me upstairs - easier enough to pack in the bag and use for weekend trips. I'm in Scotland so used the Baby Box for naps downstairs.

Have you looked to see if there are any second hand near you on eBay, Gumtree, Facebook selling, etc? You need to buy a new mattress but it still works out a lot cheaper. We got our Next To Me for £40 and then paid £25 for new mattress - and they're nearly £200 new.

My friend had a Snuzpod and said the baby outgrew it by three months and that it was always more hassle than she thought it would be to take the top off so she barely bothered - she regretted buying it. That's only one review, though! We got on really well with our Next To Me (which we bought when baby outgrew Moses basket at 10 weeks) but I know babies who have refused to sleep in them. I don't think there's anything you can buy and be guaranteed that your baby will love it, sadly!

We bought a second hand Snuzpod (new mattress) which lasted 7 months and DD was on about 80%ile so not a small baby. Loved it as it wasn't too big but didn't carry it around at all as it is too heavy. Used a sleepyhead for naps in other rooms and when travelling as couldn't be bothered transporting any crib ever. There's pros and cons to all so just have to weigh up what would work best for your family.
