Hi,

Can anyone give me any tips, I am in my first trimester of pregnancy around 8 weeks, I have extremes nausea, im not physically vomiting but the nausea is unbearable. I have bad anti sickness tablets which haven't helped at all and also tried ginger which is having no effect. I cant bare food at the moment because of this, even scrolling past food on social media is making me feel sick, any smells of food are doing the same and all the foods i used to love i cant bear to eat. Im living off ice lollies and cereal at the moment. Can anyone give me any tips on what may have helped you? Thanks.

I went off food completely until about 17 weeks. Just part of pregnancy I'm afraid. My appetite started coming back a bit earlier than that but I was very very very fussy. There are still certain things that I can't bear the sight or smell of (garlic - ugh!! Normally I love it).

Ginger biscuits help with the sickness if you can force those down you. If there's anything you are happy eating, it plenty of it. Mine was belvita biscuits and cheese sandwiches.

17 weeks jeez! Im hoping I get mine back soon as I'm struggling now with food massively. Yeah I have had a few ginger nut biscuits but also hasnt worked. May give ginger ale a go! There isnt anything im enjoying at all, im forcing myself to eat, only thing i do enjoy is ice lollies or ice poles but cant survive on them 🙈 im beocming very agitated with the nausea now though as its becoming so unbearable 😢

Do you think you could stomach smoothies made into ice lollies? Could get some more nutrients in that way at least?

Jasquers · 26/01/2019 19:03

Both pregnancies....I could only eat cereal and fruit for 15 weeks. I used to open the fridge and nearly vomit! Hated smell of meat. I feel for you but it should pass soon...

littlemisscynical · 26/01/2019 19:05

This was me too. 🤢. Passed around 14 weeks or so. I lived on Rice Krispies, toast and oranges.

Megan91 · 26/01/2019 19:39

I could probably do smoothies into ice lollies that sounds like an idea! Yeah I'm the exact same cereals and apples are about the only things I can stomach thats not ice lollies. Yeah Iv been like this since the beginning its a horrible feeling with the nausea all day every day. I keep hoping it will pass soon but weeks go by and still the same 😢

I wouldn't recommend ginger biscuits, unless you make your own with less sugar.
The sugar makes me want to vom
Survived on dry toast occasionally and water crackers when I fancied food. And ice.
Dd now looooves ice and eats it just like I did hahaha
Just have to power through it, it passes eventually.
Couldn't eat my favourite foods throughout her whole pregnancy

LittleBirdBlues · 26/01/2019 19:48

I feel for you. I had nausea with all three of my pregnancies until around week 18 when it started getting better. With my daughter I was feeling nauseous without actually being sick, which was actually worse, so you have all my sympathies! There wasn't much I was able to eat, but I found I could handle cold sparkling water better than regular water. Cream crackers. Frozen blueberries.

Try to nibble on stuff as much as you can all day long, because in my experience, hunger and a totally empty stomach make it much worse.

INeedNewShoes · 26/01/2019 19:50

I ate a lot of Rude Health Oatcakes in my first and second trimester.

Keep trying different foods until you find one that you can cope with.

LittleBirdBlues · 26/01/2019 19:52

Just to reassure you, as long as you are able to eat some dry carbs for energy and drink some water you and the baby will be just fine. Just keep taking your suoolements.

I know it feels so so awful and really affects your mood probably. It's just horrible feeling like this from the moment you wake up to the moment you go to sleep. Relentless! My third and youngest baby is now 6 months old and the early pregnancy nausea is a major reason why we won't be having any more.

Hoppinggreen · 26/01/2019 19:53

Me too, lost 2 stone with dd and 1 with DS
Meat was the worst, I couldn’t even smell it
What I did was take multi vits ( preggo ones) so I knew that me and baby were getting what we needed and then I ate whatever I could whenever I could. So if I fancied something ( and could get it) that’s what I had without caring if it was healthy or an appropriate time to be eating or whatever. I also sipped ginger tea
Sorry to say it continued for 9 months, including throwing up on DH in labour with dd and for a few weeks after I gave birth. Wasn’t so bad with DS but still lasted for the whole pregnancy

Megan91 · 26/01/2019 20:09

Thanks for all your replies! Glad to know that you all can relate to how I'm feeling. At this rate i would rather be vomiting to get it all up. Its relentless though all day every day and gets worse each day. I will have to grin and bare it. This is my first pregnancy but safe to say after this I will not have another haha

Agree with above, it's a pain in the arse but you and baby will be fine if you keep hydrated.
I found very cold food which didn't smell was okayish - cereal with cold milk, get partner to make a bland sandwich then stick in fridge till it doesn't smell or taste much, plain low sugar ice cream.

dreaming174 · 27/01/2019 08:59

I was just like you a couple of weeks ago, between 6-8/9 weeks. Not actually sick but feeling the nausea allll dayyy and it was driving me insane. I actually posted on here desperate for advice, and the same as you, wondered how anyone could do it more than once. I went to see my OB and told her I was at my wit's end, and she told me to take Vitamin B complex. I bought the gummies because I couldn't bear to swallow another tablet. Within a couple of days, it was gone. I still feel unwell and hungover most of the day, and all the other symptoms like tiredness and breathlessness, but thank god the nausea has gone and I can eat (most) food again.

Megan91 · 27/01/2019 09:56

Aw really!? Im willing to try anything so I will go and buy these and give them a go. Definitely feel your pain I'm also at my wits end and I'm becoming so moody with husband because of it aswell. :( it is at the point now where it is completely unbearable so I will def to give them a go thank you.

That is a really good point dreaming. I'd completely forgotten about vitamin B playing a part.

I found a boiled egg with a slice of toast and Vegemite really helped as eggs and Vegemite are excellent sources of vitamin B.

Spargle · 27/01/2019 12:26

I found eating Tic Tacs was helpful, as their flavour wasn’t offensive and they didn’t contain too much sugar. Also chicken stock cube (or vegetable one) in hot water was a bit like food, but far enough from food that I could actually consume it. Always felt slightly better afterwards. Also, tinned pears aren’t the worst thing (fresh didn’t work for me!, and you might find their juice or syrup is good to drink.

At 8 weeks you are probably getting to your worst point. It will probably start to lift in a couple of weeks, and you will feel So Much Better in, hopefully, not much time after that.

Lammoshay · 30/01/2019 23:19

Muller light yogurts and green apples were my saviour!
Anything that was soft and wet was better as appose to dry foods which made me wretch. X

PatricksRum · 30/01/2019 23:20

Just stick to what you like, ice lollies and take your vitamins!
I barely ate for 9 months
