Recently found out we’re expecting after donor egg ivf abroad. Was wondering what bregnancy and birth books people can recommend. I’m well into my 40’s so would love something that attracts older mums to be.

Many thanks in advance x

I had quite a few. One that stood out for me was Kate Evans 'Bump: How to make, grow and birth a baby'. It's properly evidenced (with references) and actually told me stuff the other books I'd read hadn't, the interspersed cartoons are gently funny but at the same time it's very practical.

Emily Osters 'Expecting Better' is good if you want to know a bit more about where the various pregnancy rules come from, what the evidence for them is, and make your own mind up about which ones matter and which are less important. One of the things she looks into is risks for older Mums.

I've seen recommendations on here for Milli Hill's positive birthing book, but it wasn't out when I had my first two so can't comment on it.

Thank you so much @Teddyreddy. I did have a quick look at the Milli Hill book. I like the sound of books that evidence the background to information so I will have a look at the other 2 you’ve mentioned.

I really enjoyed The positive birth book, and will have it to hand during the early part of labour, as I found it so reassuring and supportive. I also agree with PP, the Bump - how to make, grow and birth a baby is a great book too. Every single statistic in the book is backed up with a reference to a study. Currently reading one of Ina Mays books too, although probably a bit too 'hippy' for most!
