25 weeks pregnant and water leaking...

Hi I'm 25 weeks pregnant and woke up in the middle of the night with water running down my leg. Not quite a gush, but much more than a leak!

Since then I've had quite a few more leaks, but not as heavy.

Doesn't smell like wee but I also have a stinking cold so it may well just be wee and I can't smell it!

I phoned the maternity unit and she told me to put a pad on for an hour to monitor it. But to be honest I've only had one smallish leak since then.

I'm just wondering if anyone has had anything similar and it it was just urine or if I should still go to get checked out? It's the initial incident that has concerned me rather than any or the leaks since.

Thank you!

Always best to err on the side of caution so I'd say get checked out. It could be nothing but I'm sure triage will be happy to help you if you go in. All the best!

Definitely go and get checked out today. I had similar at 35 weeks - it was premature rupture of membranes (waters breaking) but I wasn't in labour.

They gave me antibiotics, scanned me regularly and waited till I was term (37 weeks) before inducing me.

Not saying this is definitely what's happening to you but do get checked.

(Btw, the fluid smelt like Milton sterilising fluid!)

Also btw, your body keeps producing the fluid so baby should be fine.

Agree that you should get checked. I think you'd probably know if you'd done a wee. Waters breaking are such an involuntary feeling.

My waters broke as a trickle and not a gush (but at term). In fact I had several small trickles and no buy gush and then my contractions started shortly after. Waters were still coming out in little bits for another 5 hours until the midwife broke them properly.

Are you sure it's just not discharge? Mine increased so much after 12 weeks. It's varied from being watery/runny to a little gloopy. I have to wear a pad all the time now - hate it.

Esker · 26/01/2019 05:34

Definitely get checked out. They won't mind if it's nothing, but if it is your waters it is important for them to know as there may be things they want you to do eg take antibiotics or having more frequent check ups.

Esker · 26/01/2019 05:35

Hope you're feeling well and it's nothing!

snitzelvoncrumb · 26/01/2019 05:54

Just keep an eye on it, I know this will sound strange but keep the pads and take them with you if you go to hospital. They can check to see if it's amniotic fluid. Waters can leak and seal again.

Thanks for your replies ladies. Was still having regular leaks so decided to come in and my waters have broken early. Already on a ward now but there's no signs of early labour and they seem confident that they should be able to delay it. Thank you for all of your messages and advice, very much appreciated!
