Morning - had a lovely start to the day when I fainted in the queue for my decaf latte! Am now at work and still feeling really woozy. I am 25 wks pg and haven't had any dizzy spells before this.
Should I see the GP or is it another lovely pregnancy surprise symptom?

You may have low bp. Are you eating properly? Drinking enough? Have you had breakfast?

I fainted once when pregnant with DS1. Got a cup of tea each morning after that at the station. The guard would look out for me.

I fainted a lot at around this time mandler. Was anaemic and had very low blood pressure. What's your like? Did you have breakfast before you went out?

MrsScavo · 02/07/2007 10:11

You shouldn't be fainting, poor you. Take the day off and go and get your blood pressue checked.

mandler · 02/07/2007 10:35

I had a cereal bar on the bus, then tea and granary toast when I got into work. Now eating cherries!
I can't get an appointment today to get my BP checked, which is bloomin annoying. Do pharmacies offer bp testing?

I have just posted on my ante natal thread about this, was 27 weeks yesterday and have been feeling dizzy on and off the past couple of days, and am feeling very queasy this morning too.

DivaSkyChick · 02/07/2007 10:44

I fainted several times, had lowish BP (100/60)NOT anemic at all, drank loads of water, ate plenty, etc. etc. GP and midwives basically were sympathetic but had a "that shit happens" attitude.

TooTicky · 02/07/2007 10:46

It won't necessarily happen again - I fainted once in pg1 and pg2, not at all in pg3 and pg4. Do have a check-up though.

I've been feeling weak and dizzy the past couple of days too, not fainted (yet?!), phoned the hospital non-emergency line and they've just said that I might be overdoing it or something (I'm at home putting my feet up LOL) so to slow down and get some rest, let your body have a break!

Done anything exciting over the weekend Mandler?!! LOL
As long as you feel Ok now maybe it was just the getting up in the morning thing?
Lloyds pharmacy used to do bp (don't know if they still do though?)

Gd luck hope it's just one of those pregnancy things LOL

I had this with my last pregnancy at around the same time and was told it was nothing to worry about just blood pressure adjustments. The danger is falling and hurting yourself and lo so as soon as you feel dizzy sit down or even better lie on your left hand side and get up slowly when you feel better. I found part of what was causing it for me was standing for too long or getting up too fast. I had to walk out of the checkout queue on one occasion and the staff packed my shopping and got me a glass of water. On another occasion i went temporarily blind which was really scary!

After a couple of weeks it completely stopped

loopyredangel · 02/07/2007 11:24

I was told low blood pressure too, and I have got it this time around, last time I had it even when I was sitting down, this time it's if I stand still for too long.

Naetha · 02/07/2007 11:24

It sounds like low blood pressure to me, and that combined with low blood sugar due to it being early morning.

My BP was 80/54 last time it was checked and I regularly get dizzy spells, headrushes, etc. I avoid fainting by trying to look out for the warning signs and as soon as I see them, I just stop what I'm doing and sit down, ideally putting my head between my knees.

Warning signs for me (I know everyone is different) include ringing in the ears, snowstorm effect (like on the TV) across my vision, loss of balance, hot flushes. As soon as you get any of them, sit down asap. I've sat on the floor in the middle of a supermarket aisle before. Its better to sit down safely (and look a bit daft) than injure yourself if you faint.

loopyredangel · 02/07/2007 11:28

My warning sign I tend to get really nauseous and hot.

mandler · 02/07/2007 11:41

I tried getting my head between my knees but can't even manage that with the bump in the way . Thanks for all the advice

Failing that, just lie down if you can

Its just a case of getting blood to your head.

mandler · 02/07/2007 15:45

Quick update, BP "a bit high but not worrying", urine clear and blood test taken for anaemia.
Hope everyone else's dizzyness is just a temporary blip
