Advice/ inducing labour

Hello, before you continue reading this please do not give any hate or rude comments I'm just asking a question. I'm will probably 99% not do it I'm just asking people's opinions about it /advice.

I've been trying to induce labour, I am almost 40 weeks. Midwife said it is absolutely fine. By that I mean the obvious, sex , nipple stim, eating pineapple, exercise and birthing ball things like this to induce labour. But, to be honest nothing is working. I have had enough so I've been looking up other methods to induce labour and one that keeps popping up is a tablespoon of castor oil.

I have read both pros and cons of what some people have said but nothing that is up to date. Its a bit to late to message my midwife and ask whether this is totally unacceptable or whether it's okay. I will obviously not just listen to you're advice I will consult my midwife too but while I'm having trouble sleeping. What's you're opinion? In a nice way haha as I am emotional and no not need to be bombarded with how dare you think of this or you're silly and things that that.

Thank you

There is, I believe, some evidence that it might get things going by irritating your insides. Unfortunately, your digestive system will be more directly irritated, and this can lead to a different kind of delivery - possibly beforehand (it’s not guaranteed to work, so maybe a long way beforehand), possibly on the delivery table. I understand that both ends can be affected, and that the body is in a bit of a hurry to eject this unwanted substance!

I have heard stories of people regretting their choice - even if it does start labour, the other effects have made labour rather more unpleasant!

I've had no experience with castor oil but I've heard it does work for some people and done nothing for others, I was like you I tried everything to get things shifted, the only thing that worked for me in the end was a sweep, I was in labour an hour or so later
Good luck hun and wishing you and baby all the best xxx

Please don't. I posted the same not so long ago and was met with lots of horrified no's. Honestly can't remember why now. Apparently can be very very bad. In the end I used evening primrose oil when I was 41+2. I saw stories online of it working for people - they said 1 up 1 down. I spoke to a few IRL who said they did it too so thought it was worth a try, especially as I had a high bishops score. Each time I did it it gave me cramps. In the end I was induced and when baby was born she was very very unwell and admitted to hospital for a week. They couldn't work out why and it wasn't until recently that I wondered if the two were linked. I also had an infection (possibly coincidence.)

Look up your bishop score - you can work it out using your notes. Walk LOTS and then walk some more. This is what will bring labour on apparently - I never could due to pgp.

I was due to be induced last Friday at 39+1 and on Thursday evening did about 30 mins of breast pumping with the electric pump. My waters went in the early hours of Friday morning. I’m not sure if it would have happened or if it was the pumping. I definitely felt small twinges when pumping, but labour was fast and baby got stuck and I ended up with forceps. I don’t know if any of this was caused by me pumping, but I didn’t want to be waiting for days for induction to work! I wouldn’t have tried any other methods though as I think they all just irritate your digestive system (other than sex) and believe me if you end up naturally going into labour you don’t want any unnecessary gurgling and irritation. Good luck

Thank you all for you're reply's. I don't think I'll be using the castor oil. Haha 😂 but i will be getting the sweep soon so hopefully that will get things started xx

Just relax and enjoy the last days/weeks of your pregnancy - trust me - NOTHING works!!!

I had my dd at 39 weeks and I'm convinced it was the amount of walking I did. I used to take my dog on a 30-1hr walk a day every day until I popped. I even walked him (unknowingly) when I was in labour. And the last few days I could barely walk him as my dd's head was that engaged. I think gravity plays a huge part on when you go into labour.
