Travel Insurance whilst pregnant

Hi,

I will be flying to Portugal when I am 27 weeks pregnant. Can anyone recommend a good travel insurance company?

I've looked on many insurers websites but there's no option to say I'm pregnant only if I have a pre historic medial condition.

TIA Smile

Most general travel insurance policies will exclude anything pregnancy related. You can get specialist insurance though, I’d recommend speaking to a broker.

Ravenhall. Always Ravenhall.

Why do people persist on posting complete bollocks on here?

Insurers can't discriminate in pricing on the basis of pregnancy. They can set a limit for when they will cover your travel (usually some point over 28 weeks). Obviously levels of cover vary across policies.

The money supermarket guide is pretty good.

To clarify my second point, over 28 weeks insurers might limit what they cover. Read the ts and cs.

Also airlines usually refuse travel at a certain point and require a fit to fly letter from around 28 weeks.

Second Ravenhall.

I’m flying long haul tomorrow and have an annual policy with Direct Line. I rang them and I’m covered (as are all pregnancies) because as @eurochick said, you can’t discriminate (based on gender) so they have to cover pregnancies. You don’t need separate or special insurance. However, it should be noted that most insurers only cover for emergency situations related to the pregnancy not birth or normal stuff.

Also, you are not covered if you have been told by a medical professional not to fly and then do so anyway.

@eurochick I presume you’re referring to my comment? Why so rude? I can only post about my experience when looking for travel insurance, which found that a lot of pregnancy-related complications are excluded from most policy cover. Piss off with your “complete bollocks”

eurochick · 24/01/2019 21:05

I stand by "complete bollocks".

LeopardPrintOwl · 24/01/2019 21:32

As pp’s have said, any pregnancy complications should just be included in your policy without having to pay any extra- looked into this recently as I just went to New York a few weeks ago. I used Southdowns.

Do check all the small prints though as providers do probably differ and it would be awful to get caught out.

Thanks all for your help. I just want to make sure I'm covered as you never know! I will try Ravenhall 😊
