Hi everyone!
Please tell me if I'm overreacting or being daft.
I have just gotten a call about my 29 week blood test. (currently 31+3).
The midwife has confirmed that my Haemoglobin is low and asked me to go to the doctors to get iron tablets.
My doctor is slightly old fashioned and is refusing to give me iron tablets until he does tests himself as he doesn't believe the midwife over the phone (I live in a small village and the MCU is over an hour a way)
The reason why im worried is the midwife said my haemoglobin has dropped from a normal RBC count of 4.5 at 12 weeks to 1.4.
I just want some information on whether this is extremely bad or okay to be waiting a further week before getting treatment.

Hopefully its just my anxious pregnancy brain taking over!

Thanks

Jodi

In the meantime, you can start taking floradix or spatone otc. Speak to the pharmacist. And go through the gp's hoops...

It’s entirely normal for hb levels to drop during pregnancy which is why they routinely test for it. Many pregnant women will end up taking an iron supplement as they will want to increase levels prior to birth in case of blood loss.
You haven’t given your hb level but iron supplants are usually enough, it’s only if the levels drop very low that they may consider iron infusion intravenously. But your midwife is clearly not too concerned so I wouldn’t worry, just take the supplements and read up on which iron rich foods to include I. Your diet.
