Can you identify baby's position?

FTM to be, so I am sorry if this is a silly question.

I'm just wondering if there's any way of knowing baby's position? I'm 28 weeks and definitely starting to feel movements near my ribs, no idea if I can differentiate whether it's arms or legs though?

I guess I'm too early to be worried about baby's head not being down so this is pure curiosity.

Thanks!

I don’t think you will be able to differentiate between legs/arms to determine position. However, from my 32 week midwife appointment she was able to tell me my babies position and whether those movements were likely to be punches or kicks!

I read that if you can feel the babies hiccups below your belly button then the baby is head down. Turned out to be true for me as my scan confirmed last week baby is now head down.

Nearer the end I - and DH - could see DS stretching and moving around. I looked like a scene from Alien Grin

I’m 29 weeks and find it really hard to tell, baby was breech at my 28 week midwife appointment but I am feeling poking movements in my sides and near my ribs pretty frequently as well as lots of squirming and general shifting. I do have an anterior placenta though which may well be muffling it! The midwife has been able to show me how baby is lying at 25 and 28 week appts.

I think with your first it's really difficult. With my second I kept telling the midwife that she was breech, midwife didn't believe me and disagreed but a scan for my placenta showed I was right! I could feel kicks in to my cervix and the head under my ribs.it was very different to my first pregnancy.

I could definitely tell my baby was transverse are 28 weeks and which way round. However although not a midwife I do have medical knowledge which may have helped

I'm 27 weeks and had a scan yesterday. I was convinced baby was in a breech position and kicking down low but his head was right down near the cervix so I suppose it was punches I was feeling!

It is really hard to tell. Even if they are head down, they can still flip and turn up until they start to engage which is why some babies turn back even after a ECV.

I’m 26w and have no idea which way Baby is laying! I try to feel for the baby like the midwives do, but I’m sure my belly is empty!

I know a lot of people use spinning babies website to map baby's position.
I tried it but couldn't get the knack and just used my instincts instead.
With my first everybody was sure she was head down from about 20+ weeks, it wasn't until a growth scan showed she was actually bum down and didn't /hadn't changed all the way through until an ecv.
This time I could have sworn it was the same but ended up being head down, still feels the exact same as dd did!
