Baby bedroom / bathing essentials ?

So the baby cot will be in our bedroom for at least the first 6 months but I just wondered is there any bits you used that helped the baby sleep better?

We aim to have:

Cot & it’s bits
Sleepyhead
Night light
Thermometer of some sort (any recommendations welcome here)
Dial for the cot for some music / light combo
Bouncer (we will have one upstairs and downstairs to save carrying it around)

Also wondered what bath tab people have had experiences with - I want something ideally we can use from newborn and for a nice amount of time after. Have had a look at the angel care one as I think something with grip would be beneficial.

Thanks 🙏🏾

Swaddle. The sort with lots and lots of velcro. Swaddling in a blanket is pants, velcro is bloody magic.

We ended up using the baby bath for the dog because it was a lot easier and pleasanter to take baby into the bath with me.

Yes, those ones!

Also nice warm pyjamas for you because it's rotten getting up to look after baby and then being freezing cold and getting warm enough to fall asleep just in time for baby to wake up again. I sleep in an old fleece jacket of DH's and scabby sweatpants these days but sometimes I wish I'd gone shopping for something nicer, back in the days when going shopping was a thing

Have you had much experience with this type?

Never tried that. The summer infant ones worked fine for us

Groegg is the best room thermometer. Easy to see at a glance if the room temp is ok and also doubles as a night light.

I wouldn't bother with a baby bath it's much easier to bath them in the actual bath either with you or using a seat.

Baby sleeping bag for when baby is too big for swaddling

Cot & it’s bits - do not get cot bumpers- its worth buying a mattress protector

Sleepyhead - SIDS say not to use these, i used this in my DD's moses basket- (not sure how approved they are tbh, but for us it was a life saver as she would let us put her down):

Night light:

Thermometer of some sort (any recommendations welcome here)- literally never needed one for the room or the bath

Dial for the cot for some music / light combo - love this one

Bouncer (we will have one upstairs and downstairs to save carrying it around) - again they grow out of these once they start walking so I never felt the need for a moving/dialectical £100+ ones

We used our baby bath loads. A schnuggle one purchased for £20 from Amazon. Good as it has a soft back and a little bump to help keep baby upright. Daily baths were essential as DD always had poo explosions (due to dairy allergy, we now know). When it was really cold, we used to bath in the warm living room rather than the cooler bathroom, and then when there was a heatwave, alfresco baths were popular too! Once she could sit up unaided, we moved to the big bath with just a mat down, so she could splash and play unrestricted. I’d say you don’t really need one that lasts beyond 6 months.

Our myhummi white noise bear has been an absolutely essential piece of kit. Helps to keep noises out and DD asleep.

Agree with the gro egg recommendations. I’d also say that the video monitor we have (BT 6000) has also been essential. Whilst DD was in our room until 7 months, there did come a point around 4 months when she needed to be put to bed in her cot upstairs instead of down with us, as otherwise she couldn’t stay asleep. The monitor was invaluable. She’s 10.5 months now and I have only just stopped being totally glued to it whenever she’s asleep, but use it every night and on holidays too.

I second groegg, great thermometer. Also bath thermometer and baby one. We got one you scan head with and it's much easier than in ear.

Angel care bath seat which I love. Especially if on your own at bath time.

DD never got on with blankets. Loves sleeping bags or grobags.
