Norovirus in pregnancy

Hello, 9 weeks pregnant and I have norovirus! I was feeling pretty bad with nausea anyway but this is awful. Pretty confident it is a virus as DH had something at the weekend, which we were hoping was food poisoning, but obviously not. Google suggests it's not dangerous for baby as long as I can stay hydrated, but I am still feeling anxious as it's such early days. Anyone able to reassure me with a similar experience?
I also have DS aged 2 to look after today, he's not ill yet....ugh.

yup, except my DS was 14m. (is yours also ill?) Keep your fluids up. Your body will ride it out ok as long as you're basically healthy.

Hi OP! I had norovirus a few days after getting my BFP and was so worried about the baby. Make sure you try and keep yourself as hydrated as well as you can (I know it's difficult). The only thing I could keep down was flat Coke, which isn't great with the caffeine but j figured it was the lesser of two evils. I took paracetamol too to keep my temp down as a really high temp can be bad for the baby. If you're really worried get in touch with your midwife for reassurance but unfortunately I found it was one of the things you just have to ride out with plenty of rest and fluids.
I'm 16 weeks now and all looking good so far.
Hope you feel better soon

I had norovirus at around the same stage with my first. It was awful and I truly feel for you. Rest. Take in as much as you can fluid wise. Try dry biscuits or toast if you can and look after yourself. My boy is ten now so whilst it feels dreadful you should both be fine flowers 💐

You'll get lots of minor bugs in pregnancy as your immune system is suppressed. It's unfun for you but it won't bother the baby at all. Keep hydrated and look after yourself, hopefully you'll be better soon.

Can you get someone to come and help with your ds? You need to rest and relax

I had it when ten weeks pregnant with DS1 - now a healthy, strapping 13 year old.

I did get pre eclampsia later on, but that was absolutely nothing to do with the norovirus. God, I felt dreadful with it...

Thanks all, it's reassuring to hear I'm not the only one (although obviously I couldn't be with something this common) I have a slightly raised temperature so have taken paracetamol, but I'm not too confident it will stay down.
DS doesn't seem to have it, and is quite pleased to be watching TV. DH can't get out of work, mil was supposed to take DS this afternoon anyway. I'm hoping she can take him a few hours early but she's not great at answering her phone.

Wash your hands a lot. X fingers your DS won't get it. Try to keep him at a distance (hard at that age). I just mean don't touch faces or share food/drink.

Moncwf · 22/01/2019 10:36

Thanks @lljkk unfortunately he has already followed me to the toilet, and I had little choice but to prepare his breakfast etc. I did make sure we both washed out hands thoroughly though. He's also been lying with his face on mine. I suspect it may actually be rotavirus in which case he may still be protected by the vaccine.
My hero of a mil has picked DS up now, despite risking catching it herself, so I'm heading back to bed.

I had the norovirus when I was 4 months pregnant It was awful, ended up seeing a doctor out of hours who prescribed me anti sickness tablets.
Try and drink a pint of water inbetween being sick. I learnt its so much easier bringing up water than dry heaving which is incredibly painful!!

Hope you feel better soon, hugs!! x

I had it when pregnant with DD2. I guess it gave me an insight into how someone with hyperemesis feels. Your baby will be fine. Eventually you will be fine. It's just really sucky.

I found the worst time to get it was just after having the baby. I got it with DD1 and I had to make sure to carry on breastfeeding so she wouldn't catch it but oh god. I remember having her held on a cushion whilst latched on as I held a bucket over her to puke in every single time she fed because breastfeeding can cause slight cramping (to aid the uterus in returning to size) which set off another puking episode.

Rough times!

Had it around the same time as you. Couldn’t eat or take any more than sips of coke for 48 hours. Now 22 weeks pregnant and baby is happy and healthy so far. Our bodies are pretty resilient and all the good stuff it has in store will go to the baby (which means we feel even worse/more tired and ill) but keeps baby happy.
