Loss of mucus of 34 weeks

Hello

This is my first baby so I am a bit unsure whether or not this is normal but early this morning when going to the bathroom I noticed what looked like some clear mucus looking substance. Later on in the day it happened again. I have been having back ache for a couple of days now and also a dull ache in my bump which I originally put down to the baby growing and not having much room left.

Is this normal? I have been reluctant to ring my maternity unit as I don't want to make a fuss over nothing and I was there only 10 days ago with reduced movements.

Any advice would be appreciated.

You need to ring them. They will probably want to check your not in labour. As you are before 37 weeks you really need to ring them now.

When was the last time you had sex? Similar happened to me in my last pregnancy from around 24 weeks the days after intercourse

As far as I’m aware the mucus plug usually has blood in it but not always. I’m 20+6 and have been having a lot of clear, thick discharge the whole way through.

Agree with the above poster though, definitely get checked out when this presents with any kind of abdominal/backpain.

Please call them. I had back and bump ache at 34 weeks and it turned out to be a severe UTI which caused me to contract. I was kept in for 3 nights. Always best to get checked with these things!

Also second what @GiveMeTheEasterEggs says. We had sex yesterday morning and this morning I had a big clump of ear discharge. I’ve also had it the few other times we’ve DTD with this pregnancy.

Happyfeet131989 · 21/01/2019 17:06

There definitely hasn't been any blood in it but it looks more thick than discharge (its almost like when you blow your nose when you have a heavy cold, sorry if thats TMI)

Not had sex for over a week but could that still be linked?

Ring your maternity unit, now. You need to get their advice, they'll know what to advise.

Biancadelriosback · 21/01/2019 17:14

Not to scare you but this exact thing happened to me and I has DS the next day at 34 weeks. Call the mat unit, although in my case they just kept telling me to take paracetamol, have a warm bath, and call back if it was still a problem. They only took me seriously when I started to bleed

TheBabyAteMyBrain · 21/01/2019 17:17

I did loose parts of my plug from about 35-39 weeks but didn't have a full bloody show until labour started.

But agree with the rest, ring and get checked. It's always better to be safe and to put your mind at rest.

@Iswallowtoothpaste if you’re getting ear discharge after sex I’d be worried you’re not doing it right 🤣

Sorry OP I missed the part about the pain, definitely ring your midwife - I’m sure they’d rather see 1000 women for no reason just to catch the one who needs the urgent help

SleepingStandingUp · 21/01/2019 17:21

I had the same at about 34 weeks op. Baby came a week later. I went into hospital to be checked for signs of labour and was given steroids for baby's lungs just in case. (I might have had a hysterical break down and my friend had to take me to the local tiny hospital but you know, it was my first 😂 😂)
Even so, I'd call them and take their advice.
