just a few quick questions (as I can't get an appointment until Feb!):
i'm six weeks and it's doing my nut in not having anyone to discuss this with!
are prenatals vital? I don't have the best of diet so I would assume yes?
if so, which ones would you recommend on a budget?
are asthma inhalers safe to use while pregnant?
and, what are the yummiest things to stick in a smoothie? Smile

Folic acid and vitamin D are considered vital by the NHS. Folic acid is essential now, to ensure the baby’s neural system has the best chance of developing without problems, and I think that vitamin D is important as soon as the skeleton starts to develop properly, to aid calcium uptake, or something. I took a prenatal every day I was confident I could get it down, and just folic acid and vitamin D on the other days.

I can’t recommend a brand, I’m afraid. I have read some stuff which suggests that I might not be good at converting folic acid to something the body uses readily, so I use the methylated version, which is ready for the body to use. As a result, the prenatals I ended up buying are absolutely horrendous - large, and bad-smelling. Before that, I just used the ones from Wilkinson’s because they were cheapest. They contain everything they are supposed to contain and don’t smell horrendous!

Can you have an appointment with a GP or asthma nurse about your asthma with respect to pregnancy? I know that some people use both steroid and reliever inhalers in pregnancy, but you need actual medical advice in your situation. A telephone consultation might do the trick.

The yummiest things to stick in a smoothie are strawberries, almond milk, dates, apple, banana, pineapple, some tasty seeds.

I have been using Asda’s pregnancy vitamins £3.50 a box and have done since I found out I was pregnant as the pregacare made me me sick in a previous pregnancy which sadly ended due to a MMC, so spoke to my midwife and she said they are exactly the same.

Due to me just being on the high BMI side I have to take extra folic acid so I also take that and vitamin D. I would either speak to a pharmacist before buying or call your midwife for some advise over the phone just in case.

Good luck with your pregnancy and congratulations 💐

Inhalers are completely fine in pregnancy.
Is it just salbutamol?
The idea is they dilate your airways so you get more oxygen, never a bad thing for baby.
Follow as per instruction pre pregnancy.
I had to use mine a little more with my first, but haven't needed to take it at all this time around.
As for vitamins, different brands have slightly different levels of minor vitamins in them. I used some expensive ones to begin with then did some more research and comparison and now I just buy tesco's cheapest ones. So long as they have 400 whatever the measurement is of folic acid and some extra vit d. Midwives are happy even if you just taken folic acid.
