Could anyone offer me some advice on what to do on the days leading up, anything extra to pack I might not have thought of, aftercare advice....

How soon were you able to walk up stairs, I live in a flat (no lift) and have 26 stairs to get up... will I be okay?

Thanks in advance lovely mums!

I've found the pain very manageable (and I'm a total wuss), labour was so much worse! BUT the trapped wind! That is uncomfortable.

le42 · 22/01/2019 21:17

Thanks again everyone - please send me good vibes for 11am tomorrow! Wish I had an earlier slot but not complaining! I’m so parched all the time I drink litres and f water... think it will be harder abstaining from that all morning than food!

Good luck to all the other mums due soon! ❤️

Good luck! I had mine early September in that bloody awful heatwave and didn't get taken to theatre until lunchtime. No water for hours, it was grim.

But other than that it was a lovely experience from start to finish. Hope yours is the same. Are you excited? I was torn between being excited to meet my baby and absolutely terrified!

le42 · 22/01/2019 21:43

@motheroftinydragons thanks so much! Yes so excited to meet him!!!! Obviously nervous as it’s a scary thing but lots of happy emotions! I’ve had just horrendous pain in my pelvis for 6 months now I can’t imagine being able to walk again - it’s almost a distant memory! I know I’ll be in pain with the scar but at least I’ll be able to see that getting better and take lots of painkillers !

Actually question please : my mum has come down from Newcastle, how soon would she be able to see me after? Is there a guideline? I don’t want her to have to wait in the hospital if it’s going to be hours and hours - that would be grim for her

@le42 my trust says no visitors except partner until you’re back on the ward. I wouldn’t envisage you being back on the ward till mid to late afternoon if you’re on the am list at 11. Maybe tell her to aim for late afternoon in line with visiting hours? Good luck!

le42 · 22/01/2019 21:55

Thank you @since2016 - sorry more questions! Did you go into like a recovery bay straight after and then a couple hours later you were transferred to a ward ? 🙏

3boysandabump · 22/01/2019 21:57

Yes you go Into recovery until the anaesthetic starts to wear off and then get moved to the ward.

Good luck for tomorrow 💐

le42 · 22/01/2019 21:59

Thank you @3boysandabump !

Yes - I had an EMCS last time but have an ELCS in two weeks so just reading the documentation tonight actually! Recovery and then the ward. Provided you’re ok, it should only be an hour or so then to the ward. But allow several hours from your planned op to the ward to allow for delays etc...

Sleeplikeasloth · 23/01/2019 02:44

I went into the ward after half an hour, so well before the anaesthrtic wore off. Everywhere is different.

I had awful spd so I recovery was a breeze. I felt better going home from hospital than going in. Stairs again were easier 2 days after birth than 2 days before.

Good luck for tomorrow.

motheroftinydragons · 23/01/2019 23:02

How was it OP? Hope all went well and you're both ok x

le42 · 25/01/2019 15:21

Thank you everyone he was born on Wednesday, 9lbs 2. An absolute little dreamboat ! Didn’t even cry when he got his BCG today!

Few complications with the op / I ended up losing a lot of blood which has inhibited my colostrum production, we’ve had a very touch time getting him to feed but turned a corner today!

Still in hospital as my iron is low and want to establish good feeding before we go home.

Good luck to all the other mommas to be! ❤️🙏

Congratulations he’s beautiful! Well done on persevering with feeding it’s totally worth it x

3boysandabump · 25/01/2019 18:58

Congratulations he's adorable 😍

motheroftinydragons · 25/01/2019 20:30

Oh how lovely. What a beautiful baby. 💐

le42 · 25/01/2019 20:38

I’m having an iron infusion as we speak... just hoping this increases my productipn. Babe is latching well but I’m just so dry - it’s very painful.... and wish we didn’t have to supplement with formula at the moment but I keep getting him on the boob. I’m massaging and trying to hand express (unsuccessfully)! Wish me luck!!!

CottonSock · 26/01/2019 07:10

Congrats.

Try not to worry. These issues are very common starting breastfeeding. I supplemented with formula and it didn't affect our overall success breastfeeding both til age 1-1.5. Giving your nipples a rest is a good thing if they get raw

le42 · 26/01/2019 07:42

Thanks @cottonsock - that’s really reassuring!! I think it’s starting to improve- got the electric pump on to get it flowing then latching the baby on when we have something coming !! 🤞🤞🤞

Congratulations xxx

With ds1 and ds2 I too struggled to establish bf after an ELCS. I used sippy cup for top ups and once established exclusively bf until both were 15 months. Good luck

Littleraindrop15 · 26/01/2019 08:44

Congratulations 🎊 op!!! I was wondering how long do they keep a cathertar in you? Do they take it off before you are discharged???

How is your pain op???

explodingkitten · 26/01/2019 09:36

What a sweet little face your boy has. Congratulations, he's adorable!

le42 · 26/01/2019 11:05

Hi @littleraindrop15 - they left mine in longer as I had a balloon inside to deflate my blood vessels but they said on average it’s just a few hours however it depends on how mobile you feel, they won’t take it out until they are happy to can walk to the bathroom etc.

Pain was quite bad first day but then it eased very quickly. I’m actually in less pain than I was with PGP in the pregnancy. Day 3 now and I’m sitting comfortably cross legged on the bed. Still hurts to sit up but that’s normal I think !
