Accepting a new job whilst pregnant

Hey, just looking for some opinions!

I've recently been offered an amazing new job which gets me out of my job that I absolutely hate and have done for years. The pay is amazing, it's closer to my house, it's just perfect.

This week however, I found out I am pregnant. I am over the moon and we've been TTC for two years and we've had one MMC so I can't even tell you how happy I am.

My problem now is do I tell my new employer now? I don't start for another 6 weeks and it might just be my past experience talking but I know being pregnant doesn't always lead to a baby, so do I rock the boat for no reason? I know it sounds clinical but if I were to turn this job down I don't think I'd get another chance.

My new job is with the NHS if that helps at all?

Thanks xxxx

Hi folks - I have a similar question, slightly different scenario. Advice or any help/suggestions would be much appreciated.

I have just found out I am pregnant (5 weeks). There is a promotion coming up and most likely will be internally advertised and appointments should be made before Easter or March. This takes me up to nearly being 3months.

I am in a pickle as I have been more or less marked for the job and now I don't know whether I should apply. The job starts in September and I am due ia end of sept too.

Help .....

You’ve nothing to lose by going for it.

@kej13 id honestly recommend taking the job. Youve said it would be better for you, and better for your family life too. The NHS has some lovely perks to it, and are usually understanding when it comes to families etc. Its illegal to not hire someone because theyre pregnant, but a lot of women still hold off telling employers until theyve signed a contract. Tell them when youve had your scan etc just so they can make sure things are put in place for you to support you etc. There are always recruitments drives etc so finding someone while youre on maternity shouldnt be too difficult for them either.

@PoutySprout I agree.
But do I tell them prior to applying. Or go through the process and see if I get it and then tell them. Is that not a bad reflection on me????!!

starzig · 18/01/2019 20:45

Yes. Do tell them. If it is a good job you don't really want to start off on a bad footing with management and future colleagues. If there is clarity it can be worked round.

So if and once offered the job - at that point tell them. Sorry but it's really stressing g me out.
