Anxiety over fear of incompetent cervix

Hi Ladies,

I'm currently 17+2 and suffer with extreme anxiety due to a previous missed miscarriage at 9 weeks in April 2018. I'm CONSTANTLY anxious that something will go wrong in this pregnancy, to the point i have now convinced myself i may have an incompetent cervix. I keep getting these twinges that feel like they originate in my cervix, and on and off suffer with a feeling of 'fullness' in my vagina.

With the previous missed miscarriage, i had a MVA (manual vacuum aspiration), which caused an unnatural dilation of the cervix to which i think is the reason i am paranoid about being a risk factor for an incompetent cervix?

I'm thinking of booking a private scan with Babybond as they do offer a 'Cervical Length Scan' which may settle my mind a little, as i also feel I'm stressing my husband out with my constant worries.

When my rationale mind kicks in, i think it could just be the normal growing twinges/aches/pains of pregnancy, extra blood flow causing the fullness feeling etc... Has anyone else experienced this? or have any techniques or tips on how to deal with anxiety in pregnancy?

I also seem to be experiencing this weird sensation of a vibration (almost like a phone is going off there Confused ) inside my vagina, it only lasts for a couple of seconds, but it's been getting more and more frequent over the past couple of days?

Thanks girls x

Pregnancy anxiety is horrible so I'm really feeling for you.
I'm 26 wks at the moment and I started getting worried about twinges down there about the same point as you and turns out it was just baby kicking me and wriggling in an awkward manner!

I would definitely pay the money to get any private reassurance scans you need if you think it will make you feel better. I've had a couple along the way with Babybond and they've always been lovely experiences.

Sometimes your baby will kick down low, I had it a couple of times where it was really quite painful around my cervix, a short, sharp shock.

If the medical professionals believed the treatment for your miscarriage put you at risk of having an incompetent cervix there would be scans, etc in place to make sure everything was ok. They obviously don’t think it increases your risk.

If a private scan will help you then go for it. I had several scans to check cervix length in my twin pregnancy, don’t do what I did and start googling the measurements. I was convinced mine was too short and I’d be in labour within days. It wasn’t, it kept my babies in until 36 weeks at which point I had a c section for other reasons, my cervix was doing fine!

Hi i can really relate as i suffer anxiety in general , greatly heightened in pregnancy im 30 weeks with my dc4 and I'm here to let you know the pain you are experiencing is more than likely your little monkey kicking you however i know people telling you doesn't always ease your mind so if you need reassurance get your scan hun.

I've had treatment done to my cervix twice quite alot taken away due to cervical cancer and CIN 3.

So i always get a cervical length scan and so far all 4 babys have made it to atleast 37 weeks then induced for different reasons you are more than likely ok hun xxx

I hear you, exactly the same thoughts, we’d had three embryo transfers for IVF, plus the initial egg collection so I knew I had a Paris (slightly open) rather than ‘prim’(never dilated) os. I was considering the cervical length scan to. Ended up in EPU @ 19 weeks with small bleed which turned out to be a nasty pile Blush (was convinced it was coming from the ‘front bottom’ tho) Mentioned my anxiety about cervical length to MW who then took a look with speculum and said i had one if the longest cervix she’d seen Confused. I would say get the cervical scan if you can afford or see if your MW/gp can arrange for it to be checked as you won’t rest easy until you know. Best wishes for the rest of your pregnancy Smile
