31 weeks - change in movements?

Hi. I know any concerns about movements should probably be raised to my midwife but there isn’t actually a change in the pattern/frequency of the movements, it’s the movements themselves that feel different and I’ve noticed this over the past week. Beforehand the movements were very strong, and quite painful in my ribs. Now the movements are just as frequent but feel more gentle, like a constant nudging all over my bump. High up and really down low as well. Is it normal for the type of movements to change as pregnancy progresses or should I phone up? X

It’s probably completely normal, and you should phone up. It is always worth checking these things and getting actual reassurance from someone who actually knows about these things!

Better to be safe than sorry but it is normal for the type of movements to change. As baby gets bigger they don't stop moving any but they tend to feel like sort of rolling movements and pokes and prods from where they're wriggling about.

If you're ever concerned though speak to the midwife or get it checked. It's always better to err on the side of caution. But generally if the frequency and pattern are the same things should be okay. Good luck Thanks

Worth getting checked out i went in other day for reduced movement - different I know - but amniotic fluid is slightly high so been rebooked in for another scan in 2 weeks time & this could have been causing the change in movement. Good luck!

I went in for a 'change' in movements and it was because my baby had moved to breech position
It happened again soo went in and she had moved to transverse!
It was such a stressful time as movements were a major anxiety for me so I'm glad I went and got checked and monitored, for peace of mind if anything!
So my advice would be to go to the hospital, just to be on the safe side xx

Phone them; it never hurts to check and they don’t mind

Thanks everyone. I phoned the community midwife who panicked me, she said the movements shouldn’t have changed that much so quickly and to ring my Pregnancy Assessment Unit immediately. Which I did, and they said it’s not a cause for concern at all and I would only need to be monitored if the movements were reduced in frequency rather than how gentle/forceful they are x
