Electric shock while pregnant!

I was tidying up my kitchen tonight and noticed water spilled under my kettle. As I lifted it to wipe underneath I got an electric shock and as I jumped I touched the bloody thing again and got another shock!!

I'm 13 weeks pregnant and wondering if this could have caused my baby any harm ☹ I've tried Google for reassurance (never a good idea) and it says it can go either way, even mild shocks have been known to cause fetal death after a few days if not instantly!

They were nasty shocks, my arm was numb and tingling and my heart was racing!

Does anyone know of anyone who got an electric shock while pregnant and it turned out fine? Guess I'm just looking for reassurance.

I have my dating scan tomorrow afternoon so DP said no point calling triage and just to wait 😟

I don't know but get rid of that kettle before it happens again.

Call them to put your mind at ease that's what they are there for!! Hope your okay xx

Erm you should go to A&E on your own behalf for an ECG.

THe same thing happened to me when I was pregnant!

From what I remember from what i was told, your baby is pretty well protected in there. The electric shocks probably would have to happen directly On your stomach to cause serious damage.

However, you do need to go to early pregnancy unit for an ecg test to make sure all is ok.

It can take a while so bring a charged phone and snacks

Kettle is well and truly binned!!

I'm just worried I'm bothering them for nothing, especially when I have a scan booked for tomorrow. DP thinks I've just let Google scare the shit out of me 🙈

You’re never bothering them if you have a genuine concern for the baby.

Honestly, you’ll never be told off for time wasting.

If the shocks were nasty as you say, then I think you should get checked out for your own health's sake. It's better to be on the safe side when it comes to electricity, and hopefully you can get some reassurance about the baby at the same time.

Raspberrylipstick · 16/01/2019 00:54

I gave them a call and explained what happened. They reassured me that baby is most likely unharmed but want me to go in to get checked anyway.

I still feel like I'm wasting their valuable time but think I really need the reassurance or I won't sleep at all!

Thanks for your advice, @Sizeofalentil I'm really pleased to hear your positive outcome, thanks, I needed to hear it!

DP has been so blade about the whole thing but says he's happy to take me if it stops me worrying.

I got shocked by an electric fence when I was 23 weeks. Scared the shit out of me and I was really worried about the baby, I was convinced it would have stopped his heart but he was absolutely fine, he's snoring in his crib next to me 😊

I'm sure you and the baby will be okay but it's best to be checked, just for your own peace of mind if nothing else

My mum had an electric shock when she was pregnant with me, it didn't harm me in any way, but its always good to get checked out after something like that :)
