I am 31 weeks and this is not my first pregnancy so you would think I would know?!
When did you speak to someone about your birth options?
I was induced at 38 weeks with my first DS and it was all a bit rushed and happened within 4 days of seeing the consultant.
I don't have GD this time so far and so I am kind of in limbo am I going to be induced again or go full term and feeling a bit lost!.
I was due to see the consultant last week but they changed the appointment and I won't see anyone until 34 weeks.

My midwife briefly went through the things to consider (pain relief, vitamin K etc.) at my 36 week appointment, but we didn't have a long conversation about my preferences. It was just to make sure I hadn't missed anything when I had discussed my preferences at home with my partner.

Great thank you, I am high risk so I guess I will chat with the consultant about it aswell as the midwife, I have a birth plan already from DS.

I want to say 38 weeks but I might be wrong. We had discussed ideas before hand but I had a special page in my notes we filled in then.

While I was in early labour with DC1! I didn’t bother with the other 2. I discussed in advance with my midwife at 36 weeks, but as I had a very much “take it as it comes” attitude and nothing went according to plan with DC1’s birth anyway (unplanned home birth with 2.5 hour labour), planning seemed a bit futile.

My midwife suggested I think about it between my 36 and 38 week appointment. Then she examined me, and (correctly) deduced that my pregnancy was about to get a lot more complicated - I was under consultant care from then on, and my birth plan was ELCS so DD was born alive.

I didn't with any of my 3 but I had an idea what I did and didn't want and made that clear.

Baby 1 I was low risk and wanted to be in the birth centre so knew it'd be gas and ait only, I wanted to try water birth, I did and hated the heat and being wet 😂. I knew of it came to pain relief I didn't want pethidine after friends experience but after 37 hrs I begged an epidural so I ended up in delivery suite, having an epidural, episiotomy and forceps delivery. Learnt lots though.

Baby 2- wanted an epidural on delivery suite. I couldn't have it as he came too quickly and ended up with just gas and air, another episiotomy and ventous delivery.

Baby 3- wanted an epidural on delivery suite. It all went to plan and was the best ever.

Just be clear on what you want or don't want I think. I'm sure you can guess from my past experience I'm wanting an epidural and that's literally my only request, since my first birth I know a lavender massage and birthing ball aren't for me. X

I went through my preferences yesterday at my 36 week appointment. It felt nice to talk about the ideal way I'd like to give birth but am trying to remind myself that I need to be open minded on the day!

First time I didn't.

This time I was sure I wanted a section so asked about it at every appointment until I saw the consultant and had it agreed which happened at 33 weeks.

Thegirlwithnousername · 15/01/2019 23:11

Excellent thank you.
So I should be starting to talk about it in next few appointments.
I am a total control freak and am hating the uncertainty.

A double appointment was booked with my midwife for 36 weeks to go through the birth plan.

Dd came at 34 weeks, not at all to any plan anyone had laid out. Lovely emergency csection
