Morning All I am currently ovulating and have been having regular sex but tomorrow I am booked in for a smear test - do I cancel ? As I am worried this may cause problems with my baby making ? Could the nurse do damage doing the smear if I could actually be on the way to getting pregnant? Hope I am making sense - thanks x

I had a smear around the time i was ovulating and that was the month I fell pregnant with my DS. I had no issues at all.

I had to call my doctor about the same thing last week.
I was told that you shouldn't have a smear if you think you might be pregnant.
However this is not because it's risky to you or potential baby, it's because it affects the readings, meaning that if you are pregnant your result is likely to come back as inconclusive.

It isn't likely to damage anything but they don't do smear tests when pregnant as they are not accurate. I have been under a consultant for borderline abnormal cells and have had 3 colposcopy's (camera) for monitoring when pregnant but they won't take a smear until 4 months after I've given birth. She told me a cervix in pregnancy is very different to one when not.
It's worth mentioning that you have been TTC and see what they decide to do.

If you’re not pregnant then go for your smear as planned.

Having a smear will make no difference to conceiving. The nurse can do no damage - the sample is taken from the cervix which has nothing to do with the ovaries, Fallopian tubes or endometrium.

It's fine to go if you are ovulating. If you get pregnant this month it'll be a year to wait until you can have a smear, which is a bit of a risk.

I had a smear a couple days after my BFP, I told the nurse and she said 'ok, it won't harm your baby and won't affect the test'

Baby is now almost 2 :)

I had my first smear test and little did I know I was already pregnant! I had already been TTC for a month before and it didn't even cross my mind that it could maybe be a bad idea to get a smear when I could be pregnant. 9 +2 now x

I got a smear done right when I was ovulating and I'm 12 weeks pregnant now. My colposcopy dr said smears don't interfere at all. Best to let the Dr/ nurse know before they do the smear tho.

I had my smear around the time I would've been ovulating and I'm glad I did now as I got pregnant that month. I'd have worried not being able to have it for another year. It didn't affect us conceiving either, it was totally against the odds, we weren't trying and used withdrawal method once that month, condoms the rest of the time. I'd have it personally, it shouldn't affect ttc and its important for you to get checked. X

Best to let the Dr/ nurse know before they do the smear tho.

You really don't need to do this.

If you're knowingly pregnant then yes, tell them.

But ovulating and trying to conceive? We really don't need to know that when attending for your smear.
