Anyone had experience with this formula for baby?

If so how did you get on with it?

Thanks

Soy formula is not recommended for babies under 6 months. Why do you want to use it?

ThatsNotNiceRoger · 12/01/2019 17:41

What dementedpixie said. Soy is also not recommended as an alternative to formula for CMPA as the proteins are similar. But you don’t say why you want to use it so it’s impossible to give advice.

I was prescribed it from the gastro peads consultant for DD when I stopped bf when she was 8 month old.

It smelt a bit funky but she took to it no problem. No supermarkets stocked it near us in case we ran out and needed some in an emergency. Chemist had no probs getting it in for us (unlike some of her actual medication)

@dementedpixie @ThatsNotNiceRoger currently looking at my options since I’m not a fan of dairy myself so if baby is also in tolerant to it I need a substitute to dairy in the case I’m not able to breastfeed etc Grin

@thismeansnothing oh fab! how long did you have her on it for? I’m going to have a chat with midwife about it and see what her thoughts are of course - was she on it for intolerances to dairy or your preference?

If your baby is intolerant there are better substitutes than soya and they would be prescribed.

dementedpixie · 12/01/2019 18:11

PP's baby was over 6 months when they had it. It isn't recommended under that age

@snoopy18 my daughter was under the gastro peads for reflux. As I was BF they advised me to cut out all dairy from my diet. But as I had to give up bf this was the first formula they tried her on.

While she was being weaned we still avoided dairy but we started to slowly introduce it from about 10 month and as we had little/no issues so was probs on this till she was about 14 month till she went fully into cows milk

Cariadxx · 13/01/2019 04:18

Do not give soy milk to babies under 6 months.

If you don't like dairy and your baby is diagnosed as GENUINELY intolerant then just go dairy free yourself and continue to bf, that's the best way for him or her. Most babies seem to be diagnosed on a whim though.

If you haven’t already, put as much (if not more) time into understanding how breastfeeding works so that you are able. Only a small percentage of women can’t physically breastfeed but the barriers to breastfeed need knowledge and support from professionals.

Go along to breastfeeding groups (whilst pregnant), speak to others who do breastfeed (watch them) and ensure your community midwife and midwife who delivers your baby knows you want to breastfeed. It might be worth googling “breastfeeding support in [area]” and see what comes up (NCT, NHS, parent led groups will be out there but you have to shout for it, depending on your area).

www.kellymom.com is a fantastic website for information on breastfeeding and there are many Facebook groups that can support too.

If your baby is intolerant then they should be given a prescription formula, which won’t be Wysoy. You get a hydrolysed formula such as Nutramigen or Aptimal Pepti where the proteins are broken down and are more easily digestible. If they aren’t tolerated (such as in my DS’s case) they tend to move on to formulas such as Neocate which is completely dairy free as it’s amino acid based. As pp said soya formulas aren’t recommended under 6 months. Equally you can cut out dairy and bf.

I can’t work out if you just don’t like dairy or have an intolerance. Your baby may not, at all.

I think the OP is vegan. If that’s the case try joining vegan kids Facebook groups. We are pescatarian but DD eats meat outside of the house sometimes but she is dairy intolerant. I find vegan Facebook groups really useful.

dementedpixie · 13/01/2019 08:35

I don't think there is any vegan formula in the UK.

Cariadxx · 13/01/2019 10:11

If OP is vegan then she needs to decide whether being vegan is the be all and end all for her for the time that her baby needs to breast feed and get the nutrients that dairy brings. For me I'd rather have the dairy and know my baby had the best start in life but it's not that simple for everyone.
It's nor a question of dairy or formula, you can be dairy free and breast feed but be very careful with ensuring enough nutrients

ThatsNotNiceRoger · 13/01/2019 10:30

Is the OP vegan or are we just assuming?

snoopy18 · 13/01/2019 15:28

Thanks for the info folks!
