Help,
I've got mad sciatica (sp??) at the moment. I'm 28 weeks into my 2nd pregnancy and it's a real pain in the arse, literally. All down my leg and arse is hurting and I'm walking with a very unattractive limp/waddle. Is there anything I can do to help get rid or at least reduce the pain of the sciatica? My Dr is of the 'ah well, you're pregnant, what did you expect?' school of thought. Does massage help? baths? Anything? Please!?!

Luxmum- I have sciatica- my mw offered me physio. I didnt take it up as I was 35wks and could deal with it.. But it is getting worse as babs is moving down (am now 37+5). See if you can get in with the physio.
xx

Definately push for physio, I'd try and get in privately until your referal comes through as it takes for ever !!

At pregnancy yoga we do an excersise that's supposed to help. Get on all fours make sure your back is straight and not dipping, straighten one leg out behind you and let it relax so it flops with the knee going inwards. repeat a few times on both sides as is comfortable.

I don't suffer badly with sciatica but get the odd twinge and this usually helps!

Yeah antenatal yoga is great for that special stretching. I had craniosacral therapy today, It's great for back pains and general ailments in pregnancy.

I had really bad sciatica and I found that changing the shoes I wore suddenly stopped it - I don't know why, as both pairs were flats, but somehow that subtle difference in posture made all the difference, so maybe experiment with looser more comfortable shoes? Yoga helped with the back ache, but not the sciatica for me, so it was a great feeling when the change in shoes worked.
