I’m 20 weeks pregnant. I didn’t even think... & ate loads! Sad remembered after I’d eaten it & googled the seriousness if caught whilst pregnant & now I feel sick. Please tell me it’s unlikely? I feel awful.

Is it very low risk @RoxanneMonke? That’s the impression I’m getting from googling. & it was cooked!

You'll be totally fine! X

Lovewinemorethanhusband · 11/01/2019 22:27

If cooked you'll be fine !

MyKingdomForBrie · 11/01/2019 22:27

Sorry ignore the 'X'

Clevs · 11/01/2019 22:29

I ate baked Camembert when I was 11 weeks pregnant by accident. I got a bit of a telling off from my midwife but it was a genuine mistake!

MumMumMum1 · 11/01/2019 22:30

It was cooked! It was from m&s. Thanks all. I’m normally pretty chilled out - believe it or not!

Easterbuns1 · 11/01/2019 22:33

NHS website says they are fine to eat if properly cooked so I wouldn't worry too much personally.

Si1ver · 11/01/2019 22:43

Cooked is totally fine these days. My midwife told me to have baked camembert when I was whinging about missing soft cheese.

spugzbunny · 11/01/2019 22:47

If it's cooked it's fine plus it may also have been pasteurised.

MumMumMum1 · 11/01/2019 23:03

Thank you!!

I was going to say isn't that the cooked stuff. I think you'll be alright OP.

I craved paper and wallpaper with one of my pregnancies. I didn't cook it either but I did need to redecorate a when baby came Wink

Wenttoseainasieve · 11/01/2019 23:08

Cooked through is totally safe to eat, even with uncooked the risks are very very small!

dementedpixie · 11/01/2019 23:10

Cooked is absolutely fine.

OrdinaryGirl · 11/01/2019 23:34

Listeria is killed at, like, 83 degrees so even if it contained that, you'd still be fine. Munch away!

Daffodil2018 · 11/01/2019 23:35

Pretty sure M&S Camembert is pasteurised too. You’ll be fine and so will your baby!

Cosmoa · 11/01/2019 23:51

Jealous! Now I really want some camembert 😂

timetostepup · 12/01/2019 00:20

If it was from M&S it was almost certainly pasteurised. Have a look at the packet and see.

eg this M&S camenbert is pasteurised

So's this one

If you're at all worried still, call their customer care line and ask. They'll find out for you. 0333 014 8555

I remember feeling dread at this kind of thing when I was pregnant! But honestly, the risk from probably pasteurised, cooked Camembert is nothing to worry about.

Bigonesmallone3 · 12/01/2019 00:22

I'm pregnant and still eat Camembert, as long as it's cooked through any nasties will be killed off..
Don't worry

mumofmunchkin · 12/01/2019 05:11

Cooked means it is fine.

However, nhs recommends against uncooked mould ripened soft cheese even if it’s pasteurised.

The risk is listeria - if you’ve eaten some, if you haven’t come down with food poisoning then you’re fine!

Poppins2016 · 12/01/2019 05:32

When I was pregnant I ate half a brie and bacon sandwich before realising what I'd done... Then thought sod it, I've eaten one half so I might as well finish it! Nothing happened (although I didn't repeat the mistake).

After making my mistake I found out that French women don't restrict their diet so much (it's common to eat soft cheese and pate during pregnancy) and the risk of getting listeria these days is quite low, however the consequences of getting it while pregnant are very serious, so I still chose to continue avoiding uncooked soft cheeses when pregnant.

Fantababy · 12/01/2019 07:21

The risk is listeria, which is very uncommon, so that chances are you'd have been fine anyway. If it was cooked though, you're fine. It's the same with undercooked meat which is why I've had the odd undercooked steak.

TheSubtleKnifeAndFork · 12/01/2019 07:34

It was cooked OP, that's fine. Have you not read the NHS guidelines? Ignore everything else, as (which some of the responses to this thread serve to prove), there is much bullshit out there with regards to what you can/can't (or rather are advised to avoid) when pregnant.

NHS advises that mould-ripened soft cheese shouldn't be eaten (unless cooked) regardless of whether they are pasteurised.

www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/foods-to-avoid-pregnant/#some-types-of-cheese

Also do remember the guidelines are only that, it's up to you to make an informed decision if you follow them to the letter or not. I have occasionally decided to deviate a bit here and there (as many women do!), as the risks are very small.

PenguinPandas · 12/01/2019 07:35

My DH is French and when I was pregnant they were really shocked by the foods I'ld been banned from, they had all eaten unpasturised cheese every meal and all babies were fine. I wouldn't do that but risk of one lot of pasterurised cheese is pretty much zero. They were also eating shellfish and all kinds of things.

PenguinPandas · 12/01/2019 07:36

Sorry they is DH's French friends though would follow NHS guidelines.
