38w very weird feeling. Breech??

I'm 38 weeks, and last night experienced intense discomfort when I stood up going to the bathroom - entire abdomen/crotch/lower back felt like it was being squeezed or twisted or something. Not at all like a contraction. Fine when sat down, hurt intensely again when stood up. I got back to bed, pain gone but felt very sick, couldn't lie down - this lasted about half an hour.

Baby was still moving and I felt no discomfort from that. This morning I feel totally normal again, and baby's movements are as normal.

I've spoken to midwife who's seeing me tomorrow, but a few people I've mentioned it to have described similar when their baby turned breech.

I know it's just anecdotal, but wondered if anyone had any similar experiences or advice on breech babies if that is what's happened?

Thank you!! And I'll definitely ring triage if it happens again.

DS didn't go breech but he did twist round an awful lot and shuffled back up to be diagonal. It definitely was very uncomfortable and at one point i couldn't sit up straight. I had to lean backwards about 50 degrees or so. So you LO may not be breech, just twisting.

Can you feel where their kicks are? That might give you an indication of where their feet are.

DD turned breech at 36 weeks. I was lying in bed and suddenly felt intense pain and felt all 'wrong'. Sat up and it continued, and then stopped. Had a routine scan a day later and baby was indeed breech. Was due to be induced a week later anyway (because of GD) so they got me back in the next day to try and turn her. That evening I felt a repeat of the pain (nearly jumped out of my chair when it happened because it was so abrupt and wide spread), which was her turning back around again. Annoyingly the fact she was breech beyond 36 weeks (albeit for 4 days) meant she had to have a hip scan.
I can't really describe the feeling but it was pretty weird. Very much in my hips and back and took my breath away.

Thanks, that does sound like what I felt - but my bump seems no different, and baby's movements feel exactly the same as they did before? I know I'll find out tomorrow, it's good to hear other experiences though so thank you!

@EyeDrops - exactly the same for me. Apart from the pain itself, nothing felt any different. The midwife was asking if the kicks seemed different and I honestly couldn't tell. Bump felt identical too - think a bum was replaced by a head!

Thanks for sharing - the more I read, the more it sounds exactly like how I felt.

You mentioned they tried the procedure to turn her - do you mean it wasn't immediately successful but then she turned head down again later on? Did she stay that way till birth?

I just feel so thrown by the possibility - it's been such a straightforward pregnancy and I've been gearing up to a straightforward (if painful!!) labour again too. It doesn't help that I can hardly find anything to read about baby's turning breech so late on!

They didn't need to turn her in the end. She did it herself the night before the appointment (phew!).

When they found she was breech they gave a few options including turning her, leaving her and trying a natural birth or a cesarean. Their preference was to try and turn her, and they thought it would be successful.
I know what you mean about feeling thrown by it. I had a tricky pregnancy but that did it for me! In the end all was fine though, and even if they did end up trying to turn her I'm sure that would have been fine too (friend had it done and said it was uncomfortable but ultimately worked). Good luck!

BTW... If it does turn out to be breech then your baby will almost certainly have to have a hip scan given the stage in the pregnancy. It's no big deal though and hopefully just routine. Happens a few weeks after birth.
