What do you use for bedding in a Sleepyhead/bedside crib combination?

I'm probably being thick but please could anyone share what bedding they use fir a newborn in a Sleepyhead that will be placed in a bedside crib?

I had a Moses basket years ago with our other two dc and we swaddled initially but my health visitor says this is no advised any more due to the possibility of overheating. Our Gro Egg says it's 'warm' in our bedroom and the leaflet advises a 1.0 tog sleeping bag or a sheet and a lightweight blanket.

If I use blankets (I'm thinking flat sheets and cellular blankets) then how do these work safely with a Sleepyhead? Surely I won't be able to safely tuck them down, ensuring there are no loose sheets?

I'm so confused. Feel as though I've forgotten everything - it's been a big gap between children!

Thanks Smile

Fitted sheet over bedside crib mattress, with sleepyhead on top. DD was swaddled in the sleepyhead. Personally I would still swaddle if needed - advice on this hasn’t changed since when I had my daughter in 2017. Clear cot is safest (so no sleepyhead either), but you make decisions after weighing up risks and benefits. For me, that was safer than her bedsharing with me (we formula fed, and I am a VERY deep sleeper.)

I've got a bedside crib but no sleepyhead. Was intending to use a blanket or fro at depending how cold it is

Hi, we used a sleepyhead when my little boy was a baby in the chicco next to me crib and we used a cellular blanket that was tucked right under the sleepyhead then when he got a bit bigger we started using a sleeping bag.

Thank you for the replies - really helpful. I only bought the Sleepyhead because we are in a rented house until Spring and my husband will be working in our bedroom when he works from home - I thought this would be a good way to get the baby to settle in the cot (in the nursery) or downstairs. A very expensive solution!

My little boy really settled in his sleepy head, expensive but worthwhile and we used it downstairs for naps as he wouldn't go in the moses basket. X

I'm starting to think I need a sleepyhead too now!

DD sleeps in a sleepyhead in a next2me, she wore a grosnug as a newborn and now a normal 2.5 tog sleeping bag, our room is always 16-20 degrees at night, usually about 17.

@Nothisispatrick that's helpful, thank you. Do you rate the grosnugs? I've read mixed reviews. I'm predicted to have a big ish baby so I don't want to waste money but I like the fact that they are made for newborns and help them to feel secure.

We bought a gro snug and tried to put our little boy in it when he was a baby didn't like it so just went to using a cellular blanket then when he started to kick the blanket off switched to a gro sleeping bag. X
