This is quite embarrassing, so I've NC to post. 🙈

I'm 31 weeks pregnant and I seem to have developed a rash in my groin, just below my bikini line. It's very red and sore. I think it might be from sweating, so I've tried to keep the area dry and after showers I've used Germolene, talc and nappy rash cream (not all at the same time), but nothing seems to be getting rid of it.

Has anyone else had this or know what it might be? Any recommendations to help clear it up?

(FYI, I haven't mentioned to MW as my next appointment isn't until next week).

Does it smell bready? It looks like it could be a yeast infection, you can get Cannestan that isn't for vaginal thrush but would need to check whether you can use it during pregnancy

Jellybean100 · 09/01/2019 14:17

Ouch yes looks like yeast infection. Canestan cream will sort it.

Ticklemyelmo · 09/01/2019 14:18

It doesn't smell at all, and I've had no other symptoms of yeast infection, that's why I thought it might be a sweat rash. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Conotrane is nice to use

Looks like intertrigo, which is basically a rash caused by dampness in between skin folds.

I had this a few weeks ago where my c-section saggy belly had a patch of rash under it. I realised I hadn’t cried myself thoroughly after the shower for the last 2 days as DD had been unwell with a virus and wouldn’t be left alone for long. Just washed and then dried very thoroughly, and tried to ‘air it’ as much as possible.

I’d say your best bet is not to keep putting stuff on it - just wash as usual and dry very thoroughly. Let the area breathe as much as you can.

Sipperskipper · 09/01/2019 14:23

*dried myself!

You are much more susceptible to fungal infections when you are pregnant. I had similar under my arms and needed prescription cream from the gp.

Smaddii · 09/01/2019 14:26

Looks like a yeast infection to me - have you been on antibiotics recently? I take acidophilus capsules from Holland and Barrett as a preventative as i went through a stage of needing pretty strong antibiotics (with a similar outcome to yours!) and they appear to work!

cheesywotnots · 09/01/2019 14:27

Stop putting stuff on it, it looks sore. Can you have a discreet word with a pharmacist and show them a picture. I get this under my big boobies and use canestan with a steroid cream.

Looks like sweat rash.
A thin layer of sudocrem works for me..
Wash with plain water daily and even put a gauze on it after sudocrem

DannyWallace · 09/01/2019 16:27

You poor thing. That looks painful.

I agree with above and try to see a pharmacist ASAP, sometimes too much of the wrong creams can make things worse.

Hope it gets better for you soon Thanks

VictoriaBun · 09/01/2019 16:32

Yes agree with others 're a fungal infection / sweat rash. Try to keep it aired as much as possible ( lie down to expose it ) Also sounds weird but put panty liners under it to keep the skin away from each other.

NotUmbongoUnchained · 09/01/2019 16:33

I had something like that it was horrible, couldn’t wear pants or anything! My gp gave me cream that cleared it up in a week but I can’t temember what it was!

Ticklemyelmo · 09/01/2019 17:29

Thanks everyone for your input and advice. It's because I'm slightly overweight that the skin touches each other and the rash is in the middle, but I'll try my best to air it as much as possible.

I'll also go make an appointment with my GP to see if I can get anything to help clear it up.

Whenever happened to being all radiant and glowing whilst pregnant eh!? I'm just a flipping hot mess! 😂

I agree it's probably fungal. Don't put talc on it, it may make it worse. See your gp for a suitable cream and hopefully you can go back to glowingFlowers

Mom4x · 19/10/2019 11:07

Update?

HerculesMulligan · 19/10/2019 16:37

I had this about two months ago, whilst heavily pregnant. It's almost certainly fungal, and the GP would give you a prescription for Canestan which will sort it out fairly quickly. You might be able to find a pharmacist who will give you a tube, but some of them are extremely cautious during pregnancy if you don't have a prescription.
