Travelling abroad 27 weeks

Hi All

I am very early on (10 weeks) but hoping to go on holiday to Greece early this summer I will be 27 weeks.

Just wondering if anybody has any advice on travelling at 27 weeks? This is my first pregnancy and I am worried I may not be up to it when the time comes?

Has anyone been abroad around 27 weeks and how did they find it

Thanks Smile

I did at 29-31 weeks, all was fine. I felt very well at that stage in all of my pregnancies. I think a holiday is great chance to relax properly, can't imagine people finding difficulty unless they have HG or are not generally well and active. Are you going short or long haul?

Santababyclaus · 08/01/2019 19:44

I went at 26 weeks. It would have been fine (based on how I felt during my first pregnancy) but this time I had pelvic girdle pain; I was really struggling with walking at that point. Thankfully we were staying all inclusive in a remote location so there wasn't much to walk to!

Will you be 27 weeks for your return flight? 28 weeks is often the date that airlines will want a fit to fly letter.

Thanks both @Justus22 @Santababyclaus

It'll be short haul- only 3 and a half hour flight! Smile

I will be 27 weeks 5 days for the return flight so was hoping that will be okay, although I will take along my notes etc! X

Just double check with the airline first as they can differ, for example I think that Ryanair require a fit to fly letter once you enter the 28th week, and at 27+5 you would be in your 28th week.

@GabbyGal oh gosh yeah of course I'd be in my 28th week! Will check with the airline.

Most important thing is to make sure you have decent travel (health) insurance, just in case of problems.

I flew when I was 28th weeks and neither of the airlines I used required a letter until close to term (Norwegian and easyJet). But my midwife wrote me one just in case anyway, no harm in asking.

I’m flying out to Geneva for a week working at about that time. It’s just hit me that I’ll probably have to walk a mile between accommodation and work every day while I’m there. There’s also a small amount of manual labour in tight spaces involved. Could be interesting! Think DH will be doing the bulk of the work, just for a change.

(We were due to take on a massive project there, Easter to September this year, but it didn’t come through. So relieved about that now, although was less so at the time!)

Depends what you’re planning to do- sitting on a beach and chilling or sight seeing? My first pregnancy felt great at that time. This time around I’d have found anything other than the laziest of holidays too hard as I’ve been utterly exhausted, had spd etc. Some women at 27 weeks still barely show, others feel like beached whales. It’s all luck of the draw really but I’d have thought chances are higher of having an easier time if it’s your first.

I went on honeymoon to santorini at around 25 weeks, I had a great time - the only things I'd consider is how you are getting around when you get there, we found everyone was on quad bikes which I didnt want to risk! And it was a pain getting taxi's but if you're staying at a resort you'll be fine.
also, from about 26 weeks I got terrible indigestion - I think its pretty common at the start of the 3rd trimester - so I'd bring some pharmacy bits with you, save you the stress of finding the right products when you're there.
Enjoy it! xx

I went to Portugal last summer at 27weeks, typically it had a heatwave! I ended up coming home early as couldnt stick the heat & feet/ankles were swollen due to it
