Hospital bag

Hi everyone. I’m 30 weeks now and starting to buy a few bits and bobs ready for my hospital bag as and when I see them in shops (just purchased some big comfy pants!). When did you have your hospital bag packed and ready, and what sort of bag did you take? I’ve seen some advice about taking separate bags (for mum, birth partner, baby) but I was thinking about taking one large bag or a suitcase and putting everything in there instead as it’ll be easier for DH to wheel it all in?

When did you have everything packed and ready and what sort of bag did you take?

Iv just done mine this weekend and I'm 36 weeks. Iv done a bag for me, that I can take in with me and then a separate bag for baby that can be left in car and brought in as needed.

Here are my bags

With my first I had it ready from about 36weeks, it was a cabin baggage size suitcase with wheels, with everything for me and baby in. We didn't use half the stuff though, and where I live, they keep you in for 48 hours post birth.

I'm 39 weeks today for my second and I've been thinking this week that I should probably throw some stuff together!

I have a bag ready for my DS as we don't know whether we will have to leave him with someone or whether someone will come to our house to be with him. We also don't know who that will be...much more relaxed this time round!

I've also kept my maternity notes in the car from 38 weeks too. We should probably put the cot up today as well...

I took (and used) big knickers, a spare comfy outfit for me, toiletries, phone charger and snacks.
For baby: two 'going home' outfits for baby, 3 baby gross/sleepsuits, nappies, a blanket,

Hi, you must really excited.
Me and hubby shared a small suitcase (one that would fit as hand luggage on a plane). He had a toothbrush, pants and spare tshirts. I had loads of BIG pants, nighties, over the knew socks (hairy leg days and to keep my feet warm during labour), leggings and comfy clothes. Tonnes of toiletries (a nice smelling shower gel for after labour and a shower sponge to have a good wash!!), my own pillow and blanket, tonnes of snacks. I was induced and was in labour for 3 days then in my own room for 7 after that so it was very useful.

DS had a small holdall with all the essentials in. Nappies, wipes, vests, baby grows, hats etc etc. He ended up in special care for 2 weeks so all the stuff came in very handy. I am currently 19 weeks pregnant and this time I think I will sleep with a little teddy that will be babies first so it will have my scent on it for comfort.

Don't forget your own water bottle as you will be guzzling loads of water down! I had a little mirror and lipbalm, so i didn't look rough all the time! Tonnes of maternity towels. The best ones i found were from mothercare and boots. Don't buy sanitary towels as they are too 'plasticky' and if you have stitches they are not soft and comfortable.

I would recommend you having a separate one for baby as you want all of their bits all organised, clean and ready to go and not mixed up with your pants and hubby's stuff. I also took a small washbag to put all my post labour buts in and pants etc so they were completely separate from all the clean bits. I think i have mild ocd lol!!

Took a big rucksack suitcase for me/DH (could be wheeled or worn) and put all baby’s bits in his changing bag.

DH didn’t use any of his stuff in the end, so glad it was just in one pocket of the main bag.

I've got a very small suitcase (hand luggage size) packed mostly for me containing maternity notes, clothes, nightwear, slippers, TENS machine, breast pads, maternity pads, all toiletries, etc. This also has some muslins and a blanket for baby. Then I have a small tote/shoulder bag packed for baby - containing a pack of nappies, another blanket, wipes, a soft toy, baby clothes...
Then have another bag (to leave in the boot of the car) which has extra nappies, maternity pads, big fold out absorbent pads, etc. if needed.

Will also pack a small bag of snacks and drinks nearer the time.
