Spotting?

Hi all

Need some advice please. I'm 5+3, and after DP made me do a ridiculously large number of tests that were all positive we are pretty sure we are pregnant.

This morning I have a lot of brown sludge, which to me is usually a precursor to my period. I don't think I've ever had spotting before so I don't know what it is supposed to look like. There is quite a bit of it though, and I'm achy and bloated and I feel a bit sick.

I genuinely don't know what to do. I don't have a midwife yet, appointment not till 11 weeks and I'm pretty sure the GP won't do anything so I don't want to waste their time.
I know there is nothing physical I can do if the worst is happening, just wait.

I also have an interview in 2 hrs.... can't even think about it.

Sorry for the long post. Want to have a melt down but trying to hold it together x

I'm afraid there is nothing you can do.

You could speak to the surgery and see if there's an early pregnancy assessment unit near you that you can be referred to or a self referral but in reality all they'll do is either a blood test, which will need to be repeated in 48 hours (to see if the HCG is rising appropriately) or they'll just tell you to take another test in a week.

It's very very unlikely you will get a scan at your gestation as there will almost certainly be no heartbeat visible yet (therefore not giving you any answers).

Personally, I'd just wait a week and take another test (I've been there and done that). It's a shit time but there is really nothing anyone can do and only time will provide answers.

I really hope it works out for you. Brown blood can be very normal in a healthy pregnancy.

Unfortunately it’s just a waiting waiting game. Like the PP said you could possibly be seen by EPAU for blood tests but there is nothing that can’t be done tomorrow. There is nothing that you can do or not do which will make a difference to if your pregnancy will continue or not.

I had this at just over 4 wks, Brown sludge. It lasted a day, but I knew it was too early for a scan and OH wasn't keen on getting hCG measured as they'd only refer us for a scan in two wks anyway, so I waited until six weeks and saw a heartbeat then. Now 32 weeks, so it could be normal.
I have had it go the other way in a previous pregnancy as well and that wasn't good news, but the sludge continued for a couple of wks every other day until it turned red.
It sucks that it's a case of waiting, I know what it's like to want the reassurance as soon as possible. But like PP have said, it may be worth getting your hormones tested at the EPU if you'd find it reassuring.
Hopefully everything works out well for you OP. X

I had brown spotting/blood that lasted for about 5 days not long after I had found out I was pregnant. I wasn't sure what to do either so I called my GP (on the first day of spotting) and they referred this onto a midwife who organized an early scan for me about 5 days later at hospital. By the GP's calculations she assumed I would be about 6 weeks by the time I had the scan and when I had it they did manage to see everything was fine and baby was in the right place with heartbeat etc. Perhaps if you give them a call they can arrange for you to be seen and there is still just as much chance it isn't bad news. They never did find a reason for why I had the spotting, just one of those things. Hope everything turns out okay for you.

Thank you all.

I called the GP and after being passed about a bit I eventually managed to get to speak to the community midwife and she was really kind. I'm on bed rest with paracetamol and a pad and the waiting game is on.

Your replies really helped me think in my panic; I genuinely had no idea what to do. Thank you x

Fingers crossed for now 🤞
