My husband and I have been trying for 3 months and found out we were expecting on New Year’s Day. A mixture of shock (at how quickly we conceived) and panic (complications etc) soon turned to excitement.
I’m thrilled about being pregnant and can’t wait for everything to come, but I’m finding it hard having no one to talk to (I’m a worrier) and as this is my first pregnancy I have no idea what to expect. I’ve POAS three times with all varying strengths of line and been to the GP re: a midwives appointment. I am currently 5+2 weeks and I’ve had a few symptoms: indigestion, sore breasts, lots of burping (strange) and period like cramps but nothing more. I wondered if anyone would be kind enough to share their experiences or offer any advice for an anxious first time pregnant person?

Thank you Smile

I'm 25+1 in my first pregnancy and what I'd tell you is to relax, not google everything and trust your body. You'll know when things don't feel right and when you are adapting.

Also, a huge congratulations! What a wonderful start to the new year!

I am 23 weeks now, and my first time. My husband and I only got married and we thought if it happens it happens - well it did and on our first go on our honeymoon too so I know how you feel. I doubted myself because I thought it couldn't be as quick etc and something has to go wrong but don't. My breasts were so sore - that was my first sign, I got a bit of cramping nothing too much, several headaches but no sickness and just felt rough. I slept for hours as well, just couldn't drag myself out of bed, the exhaustion hits you like a tone of bricks so worth noting if you do extra things after work or have long hours, give yourself time to relax.

My only advice is - do not exert yourself. Just go with it. If you are feeling crap, let yourself feel crap - after 3 months you do get better. Still tired but nowhere near.
Don't google everything and yes it will feel extremely long between telling the doctors your pregnant and actually seeing someone!

Congratulations and welcome to the FTM club! :)

I feel you, my husband and I were trying for 2 months and then got a positive. I had the urge to test very early so we found out at 4 weeks (barely even a positive pregnancy at this point!) and I am now 16 weeks.

Don't worry about no symptoms.. I said this and then at 6 weeks severe sickness hit me like a freight train! I was sick 3 times a day (at least) until just last week!

We booked an early scan at around 7 weeks and heard the heartbeat and saw the yolk sac and that really helped my with my anxiety which I think is totally normal in pregnancy!

Congratulations! Smile

Thank you all for your replies Smile

I think my anxiety isn’t helped by everything being out of my control, I’m not great in new situations and take comfort in knowledge. I’m surprised by how little is done in the early stages of pregnancy. I haven’t had any morning sickness yet but I’ve read that it kicks in about 6 weeks. I’ve started taking the pregnacare vitamins as recommended by my dr too. I think I’ll feel a little better once I’ve seen/heard baby is doing ok. Does anyone have recommendations for books/apps they find useful? At the minute I have got the FLO app but that’s it.

Ps. Congratulations to you all on your babies SmileSmile

Congratulations enjoy your pregnancy and trust your body.

Nurture is a good app that I use, it also has a community on there and forums etc to discuss thing but also gives you daily updates on you and your baby.

mrshadders · 07/01/2019 18:45

I like 'what to expect when you're expecting' and managed to get a bundle of baby books on my Facebook marketplace for a fiver. The Ovia app is good especially as baby grows.

My advice re: pregnacare; take them before bed! I found no matter when I took them (with food/without/water etc) I was vomiting them back up. Now I take it literally as I'm falling asleep and don't notice obviously.

rabbitfoodadvocate · 07/01/2019 19:07

@mrshadders Same about the vitamins! Take them at night for sure!!

Kayleigh121 · 07/01/2019 19:13

@mrshadders & @rabbitfoodadvocate I couldn’t and can’t take pregnacare at all. They make me violently sick no matter what time of day I take them. Midwife told me to get Asda’s pregnancy vitamins as they’re exactly the same but cheaper seem to be fine on them thankfully

lightningpaw · 07/01/2019 19:20

I also got my BFP on New Year’s Day! My period was 5 days late and I was willing my guests to leave so I could test! 5+4 and so far same symptoms of you- lots of burping!

I am using the pregnancy+ and ovia apps and both are good.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
Its an amazing time in your life and it goes so fast.... enjoy it! My advice would be to set one night a week to have a long soak in the bath with candles and chocolates to just clear your mind, chill and bond with your bump. Smile

Gobletoffire · 07/01/2019 19:32

Congratulations OP! Take your vitamins and go easy on yourself. It took me a few weeks to come to terms with the fact I’m pregnant and went through all sorts of emotions! As a PP has said I think it’s important not to google too much as you can drive yourself crazy reading into everything, just relax and do things when you feel like it and listen to your body. Don’t worry about the cramps too much either, that’s just your body starting to stretch and adjust. Xx

M2B19 · 07/01/2019 22:17

Thank you all.
And congrats @lightningpaw nice to know you’ve been having similar symptoms.

We’re considering an early pregnancy scan after my 8 week appointment with the midwife. We have a weekend away coming up with ten of our closest friends which will mean booze, sauna and hot tub. We’re hoping that by doing an early scan we’ll have confirmation and will be happier to go ahead and tell people what’s going on, that’ll be about 9 weeks in Smile

It’s all very exciting/scary Confused

Ps. No problems so far with the vitamins, I’m taking the Max version, but have only been taking them for 2 days Grin

My top tip would be that if you don't get the 'usual symptoms don't worry! I'm 15 weeks now and has zero sickness or nausea I was constantly waiting for it to kick in but it never did! I felt tired with sore boobs and that was it so if you're not sick just be grateful Grin as a PP said be prepared for lots of different emotions it took me weeks to come to terms with it and it's only in the last couple of weeks I've processed it. Don't think you're a bad person for feeling negative emotions (what have I done, life will never be the same etc etc) they will pass !

rabbitfoodadvocate · 08/01/2019 07:24

@Kayleigh121 I'm getting some of them then. I still get the nausea from Pregnacare! Bleurgh. Thanks for the tip!x

M2B19 · 09/01/2019 09:03

Thanks all Smile I’m just trying to take each day as it comes.
Quick question; when did you start to get a little bump? I’m looking forward to that part Grin

About 18 weeks for me but I'm quite tall! Now at 25 and there's no hiding her!

mrshadders · 26/03/2019 17:52

How are you doing OP?

M2B19 · 27/03/2019 03:02

Hi. I’m feeling ok ta Smile almost 17 weeks now and off for my Doppler tomorrow. I’ve had constant nausea resulting in a stone weight loss but it’s starting to ease now. Thank god. Haven’t really got much of a bump but I am very tall (6ft1) so I’m hoping it’ll pop in the next couple of weeks Smile thanks for asking.
