Starting new job - just got a BFP

So I’m currently working part-time and on a very low wage - about £120 a week (for reasons unrelated) and am interviewing for a job next week which would mean a big bump in pay.

I’m only 4 and a half weeks - barely enough to get a positive! but wondering how that will work with getting any financial support during my MN?

Please don’t send me any links Blush I’ve tried to get my head round it and can’t! The new job (if I got it) would not start for another month so I don’t think I would be there for 26 continuous weeks before I am 15 weeks off my due date ...

Will my Maternity Pay be calculated based on the job I’ve been doing? So at some point I’ll get 90% of what I get there per week? If so, when do they calculate which weeks (ie should I work more now while I can to bump up my average pay )

Please help, I’m struggling to get my head round any of it!

Congratulations on your bfp, definitely go for the new job! You most likely won’t be entitled to SMP from your employer however you may be entitled to Maternity allowance if you’ve been in employment for 26 weeks out of the 66 weeks leading up to the due date of your baby. Here’s some more information on maternity allowance: www.turn2us.org.uk/Benefit-guides/Maternity-Allowance/How-much-Maternity-Allowance-will-I-get

Good luck with the interview :)

I'm applying for maternity allowance. The wording of the form suggests you can use your highest pay from your 'qualifying period' which is from 66 weeks before due date until you start maternity leave. And you would get 90% of what you earned per week during that time, up to something like £145 (ish).

In my case, im sending pay slips from a job I left last April (13 weeks' worth) as I'm now in a much much lower paying job. I hope I'm right though!! Wait for others to confirm...

And see... no links!!

This may be my pregnancy hormones speaking but I love you! Thanks.
