How much baby stuff did you take? When did you put the car seat on your car? I'm 30 weeks and nesting so bad 😂 everything getting washed, cleaned and prepared already haha

Im 37 weeks today. Ive put 2 up to one month baby grows (10lb) a couple of vests and 2 newborn baby grows just incase. As well as blanket, hats, nappies etc.

The car seat isnt in the car yet but we did get it out of the box over the weekend and worked it out! Lol

ShanAmanda · 07/01/2019 09:32

I've got newborn and 0-3 out; I might just leave the 0-3 in the car just in case I have a big baby, but I don't think I will! Are we/can we take a snowsuit? I don't really see the point when baby goes home in the car seat and they aren't supposed to wear them?

I'm on baby 5 from past experience I would take at least 3 outfits only because my little darlings either weed or pooed on at least one outfit while being examined by the doctor haha
I'm only 27+1 and can't believe how bad my nesting is with this one, it hasn't normally kicked in till around 35 weeks. I will probably not pack my bag till about 35 weeks though as I will get restless in the last weeks if I have nothing to do.
Other than the obvious nappies, wipes, hat, blanket, clothes for you, pads, wash bag. I always take some sort of puzzle book incase it turns into a long wait, my phone charger, change for the vending machine (3 of mine were born in the night the cafe was closed and I wasn't offered anything to eat) I found my ipod a great comfort too and a always like my own pillow

So worth doing it all early! I was half-arsed prepared (had car seat in and an overnight bag packed) and so was taken by surprise when DS decided my waters would break at 36+5 and then as we had to stay for a week post birth!

Get car seat in as soon as you have it, then it wont be taking up room in your house?

I'd ensure your labour bag packed along with enough stuff for you, baby and your birth partner to last you 1 nights stay as a minimum asap. But also ensure you have a further bag packed for you and baby packed in case you need to stay longer (it could just be kept in the car rather than taken with you during labour as hopefully you wont need it!)

I think last time I gradually picked up bits and pieces for my hopsital bag from 30+ weeks (like mini shampoos and pads for the bleeding and special pants) and it was ready about 36/37 weeks.
I got the car seat and all the rest of the stuff I’d ordered at 37 weeks and then I think the baby’s bag was ready.

Thank you :) I've had my car seat for the last 2 months so would be glad to be able to have that space back; regardless of what happens once I've had baby, I'll have to use my car as the car seat isn't compatible with any of my family members car🙊 shall I take a snowsuit or is there no point really?xx

shan I would just take a really good thick blanket and a hat to wrap your baby up, just have your baby wear warm clothes. You'll find that you'll be able to have the car pull up right out side the doors to the hospital and so the baby will barely be outside in the cold (probably be more cold if you was to stand there faffing about trying to take the snowsuit off the baby to put into the car seat)

Cookit · 07/01/2019 10:03

Yeah no snowsuit. You’d put your baby in the car seat in the hospital and wrap a blanket over the top once already strapped in and carry to the car like that.

ShanAmanda · 07/01/2019 10:07

Thank you everyone :)

For baby, you’ll need some nappies, some wipes and clothes. Clothes wise take a couple of short sleeved vests and some sleepsuits with built in scratch mitts (the sleeves fold over the hands). Definitely take newborn and 0-3 just in case. You’ll want a blanket too, but you won’t need a snow suit.

We put all that in the changing bag for convenience.

I've saved the asda hospital bag check list, obviously everyone list will vary but I'm using this as a basic guide and then I will add/take out the things I feel I don't need.

Nappies, newborn wipes and nappy
bags
3 or 4 babygrows and sleepsuits
3 or 4 vests and cardigans
Socks, mittens and a hat
Muslin squares
Good quality baby blanket
Clean linen and towels
Winter clothing depending on season
Car seat securely fitted in the car

m4rdybum · 07/01/2019 13:16

I wouldn't fit your car seat until baby is here (or at least have a trial run beforehand so you know you can get it in easily) as I you are in an accident before then (even someone bumping your car while parked) your car seat is written off as unsafe.

We've got ours set up and in the corner of the dining room ready to be brought to the hospital when DH picks us up.

I made an extensive check list during my last pregnancy, sadly ended in MMC...anyway, here is a Google Docs link to it if anyone is interested

I know half that stuff on there many women wouldnt see point of using but someone might see something on there and think "oh yeah that be handy"

I created it based on what I wished I had last labour or what really did come in handy

@TwittleBee the first thing I spotted was the coke, I cannot wait to be able to drink a cold glass of coke I swear!
