Pushchairs and Bad Luck Wives Tale

I'm nearly 12 weeks had a few early scans with heart beat and looking healthy so I bought a doona car seat/pushchair in the January sales for a great price and my friend decided to say this is bad luck and made me feel like everything is going to go wrong now, sounds silly but I already have anxiety about this whole pregnancy, I heard it's bad luck to keep them in the house which is a old wives tale but nothing about buying them.

Does anyone else believe in this? I feel like it's a load of rubbish though but I'm now on edge 😂

Ignore your friend. I bought a travel system at 5 weeks pregnant, because the price was just too good to miss and kept it in the house. If you feel comfortable getting things, then get them! You'll only kick yourself if you miss out on some bargins x

Thank you, I feel like she said it out of jealousy as she was very harsh about it but I'm going to go ahead and order more from the sales x @Don35

It doesn't tempt fate! And after your 1st child this will not worry you in subsequent pregnancies.

Could I ask where you got the Doona car seat think that's what I'm going for also??

SuzieAndBess · 06/01/2019 22:01

My sister used to make me repeat “You can not jinx a baby”
Enjoy this special time OP

Thank you, I got the doona from Smyths Toys, it's really good, I didn't get a box as I had the display one for £200 so I tested it out when I got home aha x @Angelmiracle

thank you! I also need to stop listening to my friend I think because we are both expecting she's starting to be negative about anything I buy or do x @SuzieAndBess

Your mate sounds mental. Does she think if the wind changes when you’re pulling a face it’ll stay that way as well?

She’s probably just jealous you got such a bargain!

I held off buying stuff until after the 20 week scan, and even then left the big stuff until 28-34 weeks. BUT that was just personal preference and the fact we didn’t have a lot of storage space to put things.

ASAS · 06/01/2019 23:55

Ooooh, to think it's as simple as not letting a pushchair cross the doorstep.

Enjoy your pregnancy AND your bargains OP

Emsi00 · 07/01/2019 10:48

Thank you everyone! I just can't believe she comes out with this stuff, I've already lost two pregnancies I'm scared enough without worrying about bad luck xxx

Your 'friend' shouldn't have said that at all. She's a complete dick. Who says that to a pregnant friend?!? Ditch her if you can!

WhatNow40 · 07/01/2019 11:24

Absolute rubbish. But...you need to balance the cost saving with the warranty offered. If you get a standard 12 months manufacturers warranty, that starts on the date of purchase, not the date of birth of your child.

Some shops run schemes where you can pay monthly in advance for your bigger purchases, and then have them delivered shortly before birth. We did this with nursery furniture, pram and car seat/base. The warranty began on the date of delivery. I chose 4 weeks before due date, which was lucky as DS was born just a few days later!

Emsi00 · 07/01/2019 12:55

Thank you I have stopped speaking to her as it was like a competition would rather focus on myself @OoohSmooch

Thank you, I never thought about the warranty, I'll have to check this from now on. I'm going to wait off for the furniture as a family member has a few things that they might be giving away which could save some money as I'm doing this on my own x @WhatNow40

Ignore your friend. Some people tend to think before they speak. There would be significantly fewer 2nd borns if you had to get rid of all baby related paraphernalia after the 1st!

Enjoy your pregnancy and take all old wives tales with a pinch of salt Grin

Springmummy19 · 07/01/2019 13:07

TBH as I have mentioned in other post, I was so scared to get anything prior to getting to 20 weeks (It took a while to conceive and then I was petrified something would go wrong) I refused to buy anything and now I'm kicking myself for missing out on the bargains. It wasn't about bad luck for me, just more a case of if something goes wrong I'l have to see the baby stuff and that will get to me more. You just have to be positive, at the end of the day whats meant to be will be so just take each day as it comes and enjoy it as much as you can.

Dont be like me- I'm 25 weeks and I wish I had enjoyed the first few months as much as I have these past few weeks instead of being a cronic worrier.

Some pregnancies go wrong, it’s got absolutely nothing to do with what shopping you have done!
