Transverse baby at 37 weeks

I saw a different MW last week who casually mentioned that my baby wasnt engaged and in fact transverse. I didn't think much of it until I googled it a couple off days ago and realised this is actually quite bad and my baby should be head down by now.

I've bought a birthing ball and been on it most of the day but now I'm totally freaking out. I'm not due to see my MW until the 15th but I'm thinking I need to contact her urgently and discuss it.

Am I being ridiculous? Will the baby move? Any tips on how to get baby head down? I'm finding the ball quite uncomfortable as I have bad piles and a bad back :-(

Any advice greatly recieved!!

Is this your first? I'm asking because my third was transverse until late. I was told its quite common. He arrived 2 weeks late, having become engaged the day before. They gave me a quick scan at the start of labour to be sure. No point trying a VB wifh a transverse babyGrin.

Was your midwife concerned? I think there are thing you can do to encourage a baby to engage, but can't remember at what point it should naturally happenBlush

My baby was transverse, then she turned, and then went back again! I ended up having a csection. Waters broke at 37.5 weeks. If you are worried you should contact your midwife who can discuss this with you, no point putting yourself through the stress when I’m sure she would be happy to discuss your concerns.

Hi tilder, yeah my first baby. No the MW was casual about the whole thing, but she's not my usual MW. She just said that they would expect the baby to be in position by now but wait and see for the next appointment, my which point I'll be 38 weeks. Getting nervous!!

I had a midwife tell me my baby was transverse and I got sent for a scan to verify. The doc said that she very much doubted baby was really transverse and mostly midwives get it wrong. She did the scan and my daughter was head down but back to back. Don’t worry about it too much.

My baby is breech - I am having a scan at 37 weeks and if still breech then they will offer me an ECV or a Csection.

I would think you should have been offered the same? Maybe call the midwife tomorrow to discuss?

DS y 1st was transverse at 36 weeks and I was very surprised he turned. You may have time yet! Try getting in the bath or swimming pool. On knees leaning over gym ball.

This happened to me and I went home googled it, worried myself sick, went to the swimming pool to do handstands etc to try and get the baby to turn. Went to the midwife the following week saw a different midwife and she didn’t even think th baby had been transverse in the first place, ie previous midwife had it wrong and I was worrying over nothing. Good luck OP.

DD (3rd baby was transverse at 37 weeks. She was originally breech, then moved sideways. I woke up in the middle of the night at 38 weeks and felt really sick. Had a scan the next day and she was back to head down. She did flip around again a couple of times before she was born a week late.
I don’t think midwives worry too much until after 38 weeks.

Thank you for all your responses. I spoke to my MW yesterday. She was extremely angry with this interim MW. Said that she isn't concerned and that baby can move up until labour day when it's your first. She said that as long as the head was downwards then I've got nothing to worry about a d I trust her judgement as she's the head of MW's for my area. Feeling a lot more calm about it now!
