Due our second little girl in May & obviously went well over board with DD1 & got/bought so much crap we didn’t need. Do not intend on being as wasteful this time around! So tell me... what was the one thing you couldn’t live without with a new born??

Loads of baby grows and vests! Forget cute little outfits lol
Bouncer
Steriliser and bottles in case if you are breast feeding
Snow suite type thing
Cot (I didn’t bother with a Moses basket the second time around)
Baby sleeping bag
Pram
Car seat
Blankets
Cot sheets
Rain cover
Raincover for car seat
Formula as emergency stash
Nappies
Wipes
Baby bath
Baby shampoo
Sudacream
Nipple cream
Breast feeding bra x 2

I think that was it for number 2! Made the same mistake on number 1, think I had everything in mothercare!!

loubluee · 04/01/2019 16:54

I said steriliser in case, as I breastfeed number one for 2 months, and with number 2 got to three months, and sobbing one night through pain I gave in to the bottle, I was so glad I had it there in case.

loubluee · 04/01/2019 16:55

Oh and baby blanket with the activity arch thing to lie on the floor!

Ragaroo · 04/01/2019 17:00

A tub of formula, just in case.
My milk didn't come in properly for 3 days (possibly as I was anaemic) and I ended up get readmitted to hospital on a feeding regime, because my son lost a little bit too much weight. Was out of my control and I hated it. If only I'd fed him some formula til my boobs worked we would have been free of that horrible event!!

Got a couple of MAM self sterilising bottles with DD in case bf didn’t work out. Meant we didn’t need a full on steriliser for nothing.

This time I’m barely buying anything as we saved lots from DD.

Sleepyhead. We ditched the Moses basket after a week or so because he hated it and he always wanted to be close to us so we co-sleep using the sleepyhead.
MyHummy white noise bear. Again, he won’t sleep without white noise. It was a total god send.
Blankets, blankets, blankets. Obviously winter so it’s freezing.
Muslins for mopping up sick.
Nappies and wipes goes without saying. I use reusable so bought 20 before he was born.
Lansinoh nipple cream!! Couldn’t live without that in the first two weeks.
Easy to fasten babygrows... I hate poppers in all honesty, they’re a nightmare during the night. Zip ones are the best.
Hats and jackets for leaving the house
Car seat and pram - he prefers the car seat attached onto the pram than the carrycot. In fact, the car seat is his favourite place to be full stop Grin.
Baby Bjorn bouncer but he didn’t actually like it until he was a month old- now loves it.
INFACOL!!! He had a lot of wind in the first few weeks and that is the only medicine allowed for newborns. It works really well.
Baby wash , we used burts bees.
Baby wash mitts/towels.
The shnuggle baby bath is amazing. My other three children all hated the bath but DC4 loves it and I honestly think it’s this bath..

Sleepyhead
Muslins - JL own brand are large
Clothes from George or Waitrose own are great quality, bodysuits and sleepsuits
Grobag

HarrisIsGoingOut · 04/01/2019 18:16

Lots of sleep suits and vests
More muslins than you could imagine
Lansinoh cream
Breast pads
Coffee
Chocolate

Pockybot · 04/01/2019 18:17

Thermos flask if I had remembered!

MumMumMum1 · 04/01/2019 18:19

I’m definitely considering a sleepyhead, also considering a Chico next to me crib. Remember with DD1 she literally wouldn’t be put down to sleep for a month (baby2 might be different) but reading here seems it’s not uncommon ^!! Baby grows with zips sounds practical.. always got the poppers wrong & had to start again. Did manage to BF DD to 1 year BUT am under no illusions it’ll work this time so emergency formula will be purchased. Thanks everyone. X

A supportive partner.

Sounds flippant but honestly, nothing else mattered, we were lucky in that we were given loads of baby stuff as hand me downs, we had everything we needed and nothing was really ‘essential’.

Pockybot · 04/01/2019 18:22

Zip ones by Wondersuit I think.
Sleepy head second hand on eBay if if you look for excellent condition is a good bet.
Can buy a normal fitted sheet as the cover rather than sleepyhead spare which is hard to change.

Angelcity · 04/01/2019 18:25

Stretchy sling! Used it everyday when my baby was tiny and wouldn’t be put down. £30 well spent.
Bedside crib like the next to me, still using mine now at 5 and a half months.
A little hand pump if breastfeeding! My baby unexpectedly slept through the night and I woke up with hard boobs! Ended up with mastitis because I didn’t express them off properly a pump would have been handy

babydreamer1 · 04/01/2019 20:30

Isofix car seat that fits on the pram
Tuti Bambini cozee crib
Shnuggle bath tub
A clever mama car seat sleeping bag if it's still cold when they are in the infant seat, so much easier than a blanket and so warm.

kirinm · 04/01/2019 20:39

A sling. I have a baby who after the first 3 weeks refused to sleep in the cot or pram in the daytime. She's now 4 months and she will now sleep in the pram but it took a long time.

DwayneDibbly · 04/01/2019 20:42

Zip babygrows.
A Cocoonababy (it was shaped like a Pringle and DC slept in it on my bed: honestly I could rave forever about the thing, it was amazing!).
Cartons of pre-made baby formula.
Ewan the Dream Sheep.
Foxes chunky chocolate chip cookies (I think I ate a packet a day for the first three months).

We didn't buy an awful lot of stuff because we'd had previous losses and didn't want to jinx ourselves, so everything we bought was mostly second hand or bought as needed.
