Back ache early pregnancy?

Hi everyone,

Just found out I’m pregnant which I’m so happy about but after two miscarriages last year I’m also terrified. I’ve been getting quite a bit of back ache, it even woke me up early this morning and now I am panicking that I could be miscarrying again!

Would like to hear your experiences with back pain and early pregnancy

I had lower back pain from around 5 weeks on and off until now really (17weeks). There’s loads of scary stuff on the internet about how it means miscarriage (I had bleeding too so pairing the two together made me fear the worst). I also found stuff on the internet about how it can be just pain from everything moving/growing so I’m guessing that is all mine is!

Fingers crossed for you, really hope this time all goes well ❤️

I’m 10+3 and I keep getting lower back ache, mainly when I’m at work on my feet all day. Try not to worry x

It could be a number of things so try not to think the worst. UTI's can cause backache and are very common in pregnancy so maybe get checked for that before your first midwife appointment.

Hi op, I too had suffered 2 MC before this regnancy (18+2 currently) and have had back ache on and off all the way through. If you look on the NHS website it says that back pain is common especially in the eel stages of pregnancy thanks to a hormone called relaxin which relaxes all of you muscles and ligaments in readiness for labour and childbirth.

My back ache is probably better now than it was from weeks 4-14. It used to throb like a b**ch, especially after I’d been on my feet all day. I too was scared stiff that I would miscarry.

HTH x

*early, not eel 🤦‍♀️

@iswallowtoothpaste, I’m currently laid down because my back and stomach are cramping quite a bit, it’s just scary, can’t help thinking the worst

I still get both at 18 weeks. I think it’s verybnirmal buncompletely get how worrying it is. Especially after previous losses!!

I'm 14+1 and I've started with something I'm sure is called pelvic girdle pain, started as lower back ache & thigh/hip cramping.

I'm waiting to see gp & midwife but I'm literally like an old woman!

Loulzze · 03/01/2019 21:25

It's very common don't worry, as long as everything else is normal I wouldn't panic! Your ligaments get softer and stretch during early pregnancy and it can put pressure on your joints etc

I got an early scan due to back ache and very sore cramping at 1 side. I thought I was 7 weeks but they told me in 5 to 6. Saw everything was in the right place and the sonographer just said cramps and aches are normal. Try not to worry. Seek help if you see blood.

Thanks everyone, I’m not quite sure how many weeks I am but cbd came up as 2-3 so 4-5. I was told by a nurse at the epu after my last miscarriage a couple of months ago that as soon as I find out I’m pregnant again to just get referred straight to the epu and I can be monitored because of the past 2 miscarriages but honestly, I don’t think the gp I spoke to yesterday had any clue what to do Hmm

@bmak could you ring the EPU yourself? I’m guessing you’ll need a referral though?

I had such a going on during my last pregnancy (which only lasted 10-11 weeks but was stressful from start to finish) I had some pain bleeding at 6 weeks and had requested a call back from the doctor. The doctor who called me back was lovely and said that she’d refer me for a scan and to the MW straight away. Spoke to another couple of very rude and dismissive doctors who refused to refer me to EPU for a scan even though I was presenting with pain and bleeding so I took matters into my own hands and rang the EPU myself.

bmak · 04/01/2019 10:19

I do need a referral but yes it’s worth a shot calling them myself as some doctors are just slack, I don’t think she really understood why I wanted to be referred to them even when I explained.
